Yellowjacket Women Surge to Team Title at Texas Roadhouse Spring Invite

RAPID CITY, S.D. - The Montana State Billings golf programs delivered a dominant showing at the Texas Roadhouse Spring Invite, hosted by South Dakota Mines at GC at Red Rock in Rapid City, South Dakota, with the MSUB women claiming the team title by 15 strokes.
 
The MSUB women's team persevered through 30+ miles per hour wind, securing the team title at +54 (630) after rounds of 321 and 309. The Yellowjackets made a significant push in round two, shaving 12 strokes off their opening round score to pull away from second-place South Dakota Mines A (+69).
 
MSUB's lineup showcased both depth and consistency, placing four golfers inside the top five individually. Ella Tannenberger led the charge with a runner-up finish at +12 (156), following rounds of 79 and 77. Close behind was Kyleigh McGowen, who used a strong second round 76 to claim third place at +14 (158).
 
Pygmy Kompoj delivered one of the biggest improvements of the tournament, bouncing back from an opening-round 84 to fire a 76 in round two, finishing fourth overall at +16 (160). Orraya Tipasathien rounded out the top contributors, tying for fifth at +17 (161), while Emy Cambuzat provided additional depth with a tie for seventh-place finish at +18 (162) while also hitting a hole in one in the final round.  
MSUB's "B" squad also contributed to the team's strong showing, placing third overall at +100 (676). The group was highlighted by Hannah Adams, who surged in round two with a 76 to tie for seventh individually, and Hanna Boyd, who placed 10th at +22 (166). Rounding out the B team was Chloe Van Strien and Rackel Rerick who finished tied for tied for 13th and 17th place at +26 (170) and +34 (178) respectively.
 
On the men's side and competing as a "B" team, the Yellowjackets battled through a competitive field to finish fourth overall at +64 (640), improving by 14 strokes from round one to round two. South Dakota Mines A claimed the team title at +28, followed by Bemidji State and Minot State.
 
MSUB was led by Ryan Badger, who turned in one of the steadiest performances of the tournament, tying for fourth place at +9 (153) with rounds of 74 and 79. Kaopun Akmaneenin followed closely, earning a top 10 finish with a tie for seventh at +10 (154), highlighted by a second-round 75.
 
Cameron Hackmann made a strong bounce-back in round two, improving by 10 strokes with a 78 to finish 24th overall (+22), while Trey Engellant rounded out the scoring with a 25th-place finish at +23 (167).
 
THE BUZZ: Ella Tannenberger and Ryan Badger were named Intermountain Health Players of the Tournament.
 
UP NEXT: After completing the Texas Roadhouse Spring Invite, the Yellowjackets look to post season play. MSUB will head to Coeur d'Alene, ID for the GNAC Championships on April 20-22 at Coeur d'Alene Resort Golf Course.
