Box Score 2 MONMOUTH, Ore.-The Montana State University Billings Softball team lost two games to Great Northwest Athletic Conference foe Western Oregon University Thursday afternoon. WOU limited MSUB to just two runs combined. Timely hitting from the Wolves and a few too many mental lapses from the 'Jackets resulted in two victories for WOU. The Yellowjackets are now 8-15, 0-6 GNAC.
GAME 1: WOU 4, MSUB 0 | Box Score
The WOU defense was stout behind a great outing from starting pitcher Chandler Bishop. MSUB was limited to six hits as Bishop forced a lot of ground outs and pop-ups.
Maddy Lincoln pitched her seventh complete game spanning 6.0 innings with 10 hits and four runs.
WOU scored two runs in the first inning and two runs in the third inning and that was enough for the 4-0 win.
MSUB left six runners on base and batted .231 for the game. The Yellowjackets finished with 16 assists, 18 put outs and three errors. WOU had no errors and 11 assists with 21 put outs.
"We started the game a little flat but picked it up as the game went one," said head coach
Lisa McKinney. "Offensively we were making good contact but just right at the defense. Maddy did a good job on the mound for us and got quality results."
PLAYER OF THE GAME: Maddy Lincoln was named the St. Vincent Healthcare Player of the Game…In her ninth start, Lincoln pitched her seventh complete game of the season.
GAME 2: WOU 4, MSUB 2 | Box Score
Providing MSUB's only runs of the day along with their only lead,
Hailee Gregerson dropped a two run bomb over the right center field fence to give MSUB a 2-0 lead in the top of the fifth inning. It did not last long as WOU scored four runs in the bottom of the same inning. Three of the four were unearned runs as MSUB committed two error and a wild pitch.
MSUB had a chance in the top of the seventh inning with runners on first and second.
Brittanee Fisher hit a double to right center to place herself in scoring position. Two batters later,
Morgan Quimby drew a walk to get to first with one out. But one strikeout and a groundout later and the Wolves sealed the 4-0 win.
Alyssa Etheridge stared on the mound for MSUB and went 5.0 innings allowing three hits and four runs, only one of which was earned.
Julia Qualteri came in relief and allowed one hit in her one inning.
"We came out strong on defense but similar to the first game, one inning cost us. Offensively we needed to put more balls in paly. Hailee came up big with her home run to give us the lead and
Payton Reynolds made some good plays at third base."
PLAYER OF THE GAME: Hailee Gregerson is named the St. Vincent Healthcare Player of the Game…Gregerson went 3-1 at the plate with one home run and two RBIs.
