Outfield Duo Take All-GNAC Honors for MSUB Softball

PORTLAND, Ore. – The Montana State University Billings softball team received a pair of All-Great Northwest Athletic Conference selections as the conference announced it's end of season softball awards on Wednesday.
 
Marleigh Nieto would lead the way with an All-GNAC First Team selection, the second consecutive year that the senior outfielder has received first team honors from the conference. Meanwhile, fellow outfielder Wynter Hurst would likewise be honored for the second season in a row, receiving All-GNAC Second Team honors.
 
Nieto, a Billings local who just wrapped up her final season with the 'Jackets, finished as the GNAC leader in batting average this season, hitting .450. Nieto would reach base at a .490 clip, while slugging .611 on the year, both numbers ranking inside the top ten in the conference. She would collect 59 total hits on the year, including 13 doubles, a triple, and two home runs, while scoring 25 runs and driving in 16 RBIs, along with swiping five bags. Nieto would also play strong defense, fielding .923 on the year.
 
The reigning GNAC Newcomer of the Year, Hurst would repeat as a second team selection in year two with the Yellowjackets after another strong campaign. The outfielder would hit .350 at the plate, slugging .558 and recording an on base percentage of .387. Hurst would lead MSUB in RBIs with 27, and totaled 57 hits, 23 runs, 12 doubles, two triples, and six home runs. Defensively, Hurst made a number of highlight plays in the outfield, finishing the year with a .963 fielding percentage.
