SAN DIEGO – Academy of Art defeated Montana State University Billings 3-1 (23-25, 28-26, 27-25, 25-20) in women's volleyball Saturday night in the final game of the West Region Showcase tournament Saturday. The Yellowjackets finish 0-4 and increased their losing streak to five at RIMAC Arena in San Diego. MSUB took the first set but failed to put away the Urban Knights in close sets two, three, and four.
Academy of Art (2-4) had four players register double-figure kill totals for a total of 62. Mariana Figueroa led the way with 18 kills and earned a double-double with 16 digs.
Maddi Vigil drove the offensive attack for MSUB with 13 kills and 10 digs, and registered her third double-double this season amd 27
th of her career.
"It was a tough weekend for us," said head coach
Casey Williams. "It wasn't the outcome we wanted but we definitely saw some positive things. Our passing was better in the last match but errors really killed us in the end."
MSU Billings made 18 attack errors and eight service errors in the four-set match and hit .186. By comparison, Academy of Art hit .249 and marked 17 attack errors.
Joelle Mahowald contributed 11 kills and
Bayli Monck chipped in 10. On defense
Marissa Logozzo posted a career high 27 digs and
Alexa Smythe had 25. Catharina Brant marked 28 digs for the Urban Kinghts.
