BILLINGS, Mont. – Montana State University Billings head track and field coach Jon Woehl announced the addition of four student-athletes to the 2019-20 roster. Mariah May, Hannah Heath, and Cassidy Randel join the women's team while Nick Redgrave will run both cross country and track and field for the Yellowjackets.
"All of the throwers we have coming to MSUB this year have had success in high school, especially in shot put," commented head coach Jon Woehl. "I think having them continue to improve and work with coach Goosmann on discus and other events is going to be really beneficial for our team this year. We lost a lot of good throwers last spring to graduation on both the men's and women's teams but I feel good about bringing in five women's throwers with three true freshman. We'll have upper class experience as well among that group. For the men, we have three to join Matt (Poore) and Forrest (Cross) and I think both groups have a lot of talent and work hard."

Mariah May
Bozeman, MT
Bozeman High School
6-0, Throws
Major: Physical Education
May joins the Yellowjackets after a successful Bozeman High School career where she was named track and field team captain and graduated with silver cords. Throwing shotput, May took first place at divisionals with a personal best throw of 37' 2.25". She joins Ben Bishop and Brock Smith as the third track and field athlete this year to attend Bozeman High School.
Coach Woehl on May: "She went to Idaho State for the last two years and decided she wanted a change to MSUB to work on her teaching degree. I'm excited to have her. I think she'll be good for our team because she brings Division I experience and is very disciplined and focused. I'm excited for her to work with the other ladies on the team as well as coach Goosmann.
May on choosing MSUB: "It's close to home and I like how small the campus is. It will make getting to know teachers and classmates easier as well."
Hannah Heath
Kalispell, MT
Flathead High School
5-4, Throws
Major: Undecided
Heath participated in four years of track and field under head coach Charlie Dotson at Flathead High School, lettering all four years. Specializing in shotput and discus, Heath earned third place at the western AA divisional in shotput with a throw of 35'0 as a senior. She also placed sixth at the state meet with a new personal best throw of 36'1, an improvement of four feet from the previous season. Heath was awarded most supportive team member as well.
Coach Woehl on Heath: "I'm excited for Hannah to come in. All of the women we have coming in to throw have had solid marks and with a little bit of improvement from high school, they can easily go from being competitive there to being competitive at the college level. They don't need to all improve exponentially to be successful at the next level so I'm excited for who we have joining the team. Having a group of six women's throwers really sets us up for success."
Heath on choosing MSUB: "I chose MSUB because it felt like the admissions staff and coaching staff were always available to answer questions and made me feel like I was already part of the school. The campus is the perfect size and I know some familiar faces."
Cassidy Randel
Geyser, MT
Geyser Public School
5-10, Throws
Major: Elementary Education
Randel attended high school in Geyser where she played and lettered all four years in track and field and basketball. She specialized in shotput and played post for the Bearcat women's basketball team. She is planning to become an elementary teacher after school.
Coach Woehl on Randel: "Cassidy brings in good shot put marks and though she and others may have less experience in other events like hammer and disc, that's where it will be exciting getting them here and seeing big improvements right away working with coach Goosmann. Cassidy was a state champion in shotput in high school which is exciting."
Nick Redgrave
Wolf Point, MT
St. Labre High School
6-3, Distance
Major: Undecided
Redgrave joins high school teammate Evan Pretty Weasel on the Yellowjackets this season as a freshman cross country and track runner. A three sport athlete, Redgrave participated in cross country for three years, track and field for four, and basketball for one.
Under head coach Joan Jilka, he broke the school record three times in the 4x400 meter relay, besting the old record by over eight seconds at the Montana state meet. Redgrave's personal best 400 meters is 52.4 seconds and 2:06.53 in the 800 meters. Prep accolades include most improved track athlete (2018-19, 2016-17) and most valuable track athlete (2017-18).
Coach Woehl on Redgrave: "Having run cross country and track for four years, I think what's unique about Nick is he's consistently improved in cross country by 30 to 45 seconds every year and on the track side, he has run everything from the 100 to the 800 and significantly improved in each of his three events. I think he'll add some depth to the roster for sure and definitely be in contention for the 4x100 meter relay and the distance medley relay team."
Redgrave on choosing MSUB: "I wanted to get a quality education while I compete in cross country to further my athletics career as well."
