MSUB signs Butte College guard Kehmarr McMillian

BILLINGS, Mont. – Montana State University Billings men's basketball head coach Mick Durham announced the signing of junior guard Kehmarr McMillian for the 2019-20 season on Tuesday. A native of Chico, California, McMillian inked a letter of intent to become the seventh off-season acquisition for the MSUB men's basketball program, which earned entry into the Great Northwest Athletic Conference tournament last season.

McMillian (6-1, junior) is a combo guard and a transfer from Butte College in northern California, where he played for two seasons and helped the Roadrunners to a 15-13 record last winter.

"Kehmarr will bring experience to the guard position along with great leadership," commented head coach Mick Durham. "He's very fast and athletic and has the ability to get to the basket. He's team oriented but still scored 15 points per game in conference. We are excited to sign a player from Butte College. Coach Crutchfield has a respected program and we've been able to sign our players this spring from very good junior college programs."

Last season at Butte College, McMillian started 28 games and shot 66-for-139 from the field (47.5-percent) while averaging a team high 15.8 points per game in conference matchups. McMillian made 17 three pointers (38.6-percent) and had 81 assists for the Roadrunners. On defense, McMillian averaged 5.4 rebounds per game in the conference and nabbed a team best 46 steals.

McMillian was named all-Golden Valley Conference as well as to the all-GVC defensive team in his sophomore campaign. He helped Butte College to an 8-2 conference record and a sixth straight appearance in the California State Tournament.

"Kehmarr is an explosive and versatile combo guard with the ability to break down defenders and get to the basket to complete plays," said Butte College head coach Russ Critchfield. "He's tough off the bounce with mid-range jumpers and in transition opportunities. He's also a great ball defender, competitor, and ball hawk."

The Yellowjackets finished 15-14 last season (10-10 GNAC) and fell in the conference quarterfinals to No. 4 seed Western Oregon 79-72. The team is in the process of supplementing its roster with the graduation of two key seniors. Tyler Green, Zharon Richmond, and GNAC freshman of the year Brendan Howard are all expected to return.

"Kehmarr is likely our final recruit for 2019 and we are excited about the student athletes we've signed," Durham said. "We look forward to getting them on campus at the end of August to begin practice."
