Yellowjackets sign Maduakor for 2019-20 season

BILLINGS, Mont. – Montana State University Billings men's basketball has announced the signing of Psalm Maduakor for the 2019-20 season Tuesday morning. Maduakor signed a national letter of intent to join the 'Jackets after completed a successful two year stint with Citrus Junior College.
 
Last season, Maduakor helped the Owls go 25-7 in the regular season and make a run to the California state semi-finals. Listed as a 6'4 guard from Carson, California, Maduakor averaged 11.6 points per game in 29 contests for Citrus College as a sophomore. He shot 46.2-percent from the field and 40.3-percent from three-point range. He also grabbed 7.2 rebounds per game on defense and made 84.8-percent of free throw attempts.
 
"Psalm was on one of the best California junior college teams this season at Citrus College," said MSUB head coach Mick Durham. "In two years Psalm and Citrus College went 52-12 overall. I really believe in recruiting student-athletes that come from successful programs and Coach Lauer and Citrus College have one of the best programs in California. I think Psalm will bring a winning attitude to our program and will be valuable to us at both guard and wing perimeter spots. Psalm's best basketball is ahead of him and really looking forward to working with him the next two years."
 
As a freshman, Maduakor averaged 10 minutes per game and shot 37-percent from the field with 3.1 points per game. Prior to college, he attended Narbonne High School where he played four varsity seasons under head coach Anthony Hillard. There, he was award MVP of the Marine League and nominated for first team all-CIF city section.
 
This year he scored a career high 23 points against Long Beach to help the Owls win 93-78. In the game, Maduakor shot 7-for-12 (58-percent) with a pair of 3-pointers and went 7-for-7 from the free throw line.
 
The Yellowjacket coaching staff has been busy this off-season and Maduakor becomes the fourth signing for 2019-20. Billings native Chrishon Dixon signed to play for MSUB next year as well as Clarence Daniels (Columbia Heights, Minnesota), and Ryan Perez (Petaluma, California).
 
MSU Billings made the quarterfinals of the Great Northwest Athletic Conference in coach Durham's first season as the team finished 15-14 overall during the regular season.
