BILLINGS, Mont. – Montana State University Billings men's basketball has announced the signing of marquee point guard Chrishon Dixon for the 2019-20 season on Wednesday. Dixon inked a National Letter of Intent three days after leading Billings Central High School to a 62-44 over Hardin in the state championship game, delivering 21 points and five assists. Rams head coach Jim Stergar has called Dixon the best high school player in the state of Montana and after considering several Montana Schools, the senior chose the Yellowjackets.
"We're excited Chrishon has chosen MSUB," said Yellowjackets head coach
Mick Durham. "We want Montana kids in our program and getting someone from Billings to stay home is extra special for our program. He brings toughness to our team at the point guard position along with great character and leadership along and a winning attitude. Chrishon is a very talented player who has big upside."
In addition to MSUB, Carroll College and Montana Western extended scholarship offers to Dixon. A multi-sport athlete, Dixon helped the Billings Central football team win a state championship in the fall, but ultimately decided to focus on his basketball career in college.
With Dixon at the point, Billings Central made four straight runs to the state championship but finished runner up each of the last three seasons. The Rams finally broke through with a decisive win over rival Hardin on Saturday. Though Dixon suffered a hip injury during football season, it hardly slowed him down this winter, especially during the postseason. Dixon was rewarded with
all-state honors in his senior season.
In his high school career, Dixon had 1,090 points, 475 rebounds, 457 assists, and 176 steals. This season he averaged 12 points per game along with five rebounds, and five assists. Dixon also averaged less than two turnovers per game. In 96 career games with the Rams, Dixon was a four-time all-conference selection, three time all-state honoree, and State Tournament most valuable player (2019).
Dixon is interested in studying health and human performance at MSUB, and he hopes to play basketball professionally when he's done with college. He joins Skyview graduate
Zharon Richmond as the second player from Billings on the MSU Billings roster.
The Yellowjackets had their first winning season in six years under first year head coach
Mick Durham. The team also qualified for last week's GNAC tournament quarterfinals as a No. 5 seed but fell to No. 4 seed and region qualifier Western Oregon 79-72 in Bellingham, Washington.
