LEADING THE GROUP:
Taryn Shelley is the team's top scorer and averaging 13.6 points per game. Shelley's best performance came against Cal Poly Pomona, where she recorded 29 point and 15 rebounds for her first double-double of the young season. Most recently, Shelley had 12 points and seven boards against South Dakota Mines and 17 points against Corban University on Monday. The 6-foot-3-inch forward is averaging 8.0 rebounds per game, sixth best among GNAC players.
Shelley is complimented by starting point guard
Hannah Collins who averages 27 minutes per game with 8.5 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 3.0 assists. Collins scored a season high 17 points against University of Mary in the season opener and most recently had three points and five boards against Corban University.

AGAINST THE REST: Amongst the 11 teams in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference, MSUB is at the bottom in scoring with 58.3 points per game, but they make up the difference with stingy defense. The 'Jackets rank fourth in scoring defense and allow 65.3 points per game to opponents. A challenging three game burst to start the season against three top-ranked opponents have also contributed to the lack of scoring.
BIG PICTURE: The Yellowjackets made a run to the Division II elite eight two season ago, then finished in seventh place in the conference in 2018-19. With eight freshman and three seniors this season, the team is still young but has the leadership captains Lemelin,
Taylor Cunningham, and
Janessa Williams. Coach Woodin has stated believes multiple young players will need to make an impact for this year's squad to be successful in the GNAC. MSUB hopes to continue the trend of winning seasons occurring every other year dating back to 2013.
