BURNABY, B.C. – Three different Simon Fraser University women's soccer players found the back of the net at Terry Fox Field on Saturday, as the host Clan topped Montana State University Billings 3-0 in Great Northwest Athletic Conference action.
SFU pushed its unbeaten streak to six matches – including five wins – and ensured it would stay in the No. 2 position in the GNAC standings with three points. Overall the Clan improved to 8-3-1, and the team is now 6-1-1 in league play as it moved closer to wrapping up its second GNAC Championships berth in the last three seasons.
A wild goal by Samantha Donald with just three seconds left on the clock before halftime deflated MSUB's early momentum, and Jenna-lee Baxter and Carmen Brown each found the net late in the second half. Nicole Anderson completed her third shutout victory of the year, making three saves in the net.
The 'Jackets suffered their third straight defeat, and were shut out for the fifth time this season. MSUB is now 4-8-1 overall and 1-7 in GNAC play.
Two days after making a season-high eight saves in Thursday's 2-0 loss to No. 18 Western Washington University, MSUB goalkeeper
Erinn Harder bettered the mark with 11 stops on Saturday against SFU. It wasn't enough to weather the storm of shots MSUB faced throughout the match however, as the Clan placed 14 of 30 attempts on target.
The 'Jackets showed pressure early on, as
Claire Tevaseu ran onto a cross by
Cassidy O'Dell and took her first shot of the game over the crossbar from inside the six-yard box. MSUB wound up with seven shots on the

day, and placed three of them on frame.
Harder passed her first test of the day 15 minutes in, as she secured a close range shot by Teagan Mackay. Her task was made easier by
Theodora Hjaltadottir, who defended well on the run into the box and cut Mackay's angle down tightly.
Baxter came inches away from her seventh goal of the year with 19 minutes left in the first half, as her shot after a clever through ball by Mackay into the box rolled just wide of the left goal post. Mackay continued to be a problem as the game neared halftime, as her shot from within the box resulted in a chaotic scramble and an eventual clearance of the ball by MSUB's back line.
With just under five minutes before halftime, MSUB earned a free kick on a foul 25 yards from the goal. O'Dell lifted a promising shot over the wall, but her attempt carried left of the target and out of play.
Disaster struck as the clock wound down, as Donald lofted a soaring, bouncing shot into the goal box. A misread by the 'Jackets allowed the wild kick to wind up in the back of the net, as SFU took a 1-0 lead with three seconds left on the clock.
The Clan opened the second half on the offensive, and a shot by Baxter five minutes in rattled off the crossbar beyond the reach of Harder.
Courteney Shovlin followed with a crucial sliding tackle on Emma Pringle one minute later, poking a breakaway pass free to prevent a one-on-one inside the goal box.
Harder continued to up her saves total in the second, stopping a pair of high shots by Danae Robillard that were headed for the upper corner of the net.
SFU put the game away with 12 minutes to go, as it found the net a second time despite a diving save by Harder. Carmen Brown was in the box to gather in the rebound after a shot by Mackay was stopped, and rolled her first goal of the year and third of her career into the back of the net.
Baxter finally struck home in the 85th minute, driving an unstoppable shot off the bottom of the crossbar and into the back of the net. Her strike came from the top of the goal box, after a well-slotted through ball by Claire Bareilles.
