SEATTLE, Wash. – The Seattle Pacific University Falcons (12-10, 7-7 GNAC) earned their second victory of the season over the Montana State University Billings Yellowjackets (7-17, 3-11 GNAC) on Saturday night with a 3-0 (25-19, 25-16, 25-14) win. The Falcons previously won in five sets when they visited Billings earlier this season.
"Tonight was disappointing," head coach
Casey Williams said after the match. "We did not come out with the energy we needed to compete with a tough Seattle Pacific team."
Taylor Sherman led the 'Jackets with five kills on the night as
Jordan Mix and
Maddi Vigil each added four in the match. MSUB and SPU each recorded five blocks in the contest with the 'Jackets being led by
Miranda McConnell,
Hali Ehresmann and
Kylee Clarke who each had two block-assists. Clarke also led the team with nine assists.
Izela Alvarez had 14 digs while Sherman was second on the tem with seven.
The Yellowjacket offense couldn't find their stride in Seattle as the second set was the only game in which the team hit above .200 with a .240 hitting percentage. The Falcons were able to hit .357 and .278 in the second and third set respectively to seal the match. The 'Jackets didn't hold a lead during the match as the teams tied six times in the first set and twice in the second before SPU's wire-to-wire third set win.
Bayli Monck recorded the only solo-block of the night for the 'Jackets in the third set.
Alexa Smythe had eight assists and three digs while splitting time with Clarke.
Katie Campbell, McConnell and Ehresmann each recorded two kills in the match.
UP NEXT: The Yellowjackets will have their final home stand of the season next week as they host Western Oregon University (6-15, 2-12 GNAC) on Thursday at 7 p.m. followed by Concordia University (9-12, 4-10 GNAC) on Saturday at 2 p.m. MSUB suffered pair of 3-0 losses when visiting the Oregon opponents earlier this season. The 'Jackets will finish the season with four consecutive conference road matches.
