Tournament Final Bracket

TURLOCK, Calif. – The Montana State University Billings Softball team was shutout in their game against #20 University of San Diego on Sunday, Apr. 6 by a score of 0-1.
 
It was a pitcher's duel on Sunday's bracket game for MSUB and the #20 UCSD at the Tournament of Champions in Turlock, Calif. hosted by Cal State Stanislaus and presented by the Turlock Convention and Visitors Bureau.
 
Montana State University Billings' (12-17) Jessyka MacDonald and UC San Diego's Alexis Edwards were in a tight battle as both pitched in all seven innings.
 
The #20 Tritans (27-7) lone run would come in the top of fourth when a double by catcher Katie Saunders would bring in Caitlin Brown who had doubled earlier in the inning and would come in from second base.  Saunders was 2-3 in the game with the game's single RBI.
 
MSUB pitcher MacDonald (5-5) kept UCSD to four hits in the game.  Saunders had two, Brown one, and McKenna Clewett had a single in the top of five, but would get caught stealing as MSUB catcher Brittney Sanders would make a gutsy throw to third baseman Samantha Jo Everett for the third out of the inning.
 
MacDonald finished the game fanning four hits, allowing one earned run, with no walks, and striking out six batters for a game ERA of 1.29 – her lowest of the season.
 
Alexis Edwards (15-2) ended the game, scattering three hits, walking one, and striking out six at the plate.
 
Two of the Yellowjackets three hits came in the bottom of the seventh inning as MSU Billings fought hard in a rally for the game.  Aubrey Conceicao started off the inning hitting a single to land on first base.  With one out, designated player Breanna Wilson would hit a single into right field advancing Caryn Perrigo who had gone in to pinch run for Conceicao.  With the tying run on second, MSUB would fall short, as UCSD's defense would keep the Yellowjackets scoreless for the final two outs of the game.
 
Conceicao finished the game 2-3.  She had scored a run in every game in the tournament and finished the tournament batting 11-22 at .500.  Conceicao's other hit in the game was a single in the bottom of the first inning.
 
Next week the Montana State University Billings softball team returns home for a four-game conference series against Northwest Nazarene University.  The first game is scheduled for Friday, Apr. 11 at 1 pm.
