BILLINGS, Mont. - The Montana State University Billings Baseball team enters their third week of home games as they host Great Northwest Athletic Conference foe Central Washington University in a four game series.
MSUB is coming off of a 1-3 series loss against Saint Martin's University. The lone MSUB win came in game one as both teams finished with 15 hits, but SMU committed five errors with the last one being the most costly.
Blake Loran belted a deep fly ball to left field that allowed
Brody Miller to tag from second base and reach third. The cutoff man for SMU bobbled the ball and committed the error that allowed Miller to take off towards home and slide across home plate to give MSUB the 8-7 win.
The Yellowjackets are currently sitting in fifth place in the GNAC with a record of 11-25, 8-14 GNAC. They are currently just one game back of SMU (9-15 GNAC) for fourth place and only three games back of the third place team Northwest Nazarene University (11-5 GNAC). The top three teams qualify for the GNAC tournament in May.
Miller leads MSUB and the GNAC in batting with an average of .416. He also has the second highest slugging percentage in the league (.620) and leads MSUB with 39 RBIs. Miller leads the GNAC in on base percentage (.506) and hits (57).
Teammate
Kevin Toon is third in the GNAC with a batting percentage of .372. Toon also has 37 hits and 21 RBIs on the year.
Luke Reinschmidt is third on the team with a batting average of .346. He also leads the GANC in triples with five. Renischmidt is eighth in the GNAC with 45 hits and has 22 RBI's on the year.
Matt Eames is 10th in the GNAC with an ERA of 5.13. He leads MSUB in innings pitched at 41.7. He has 22 strikeouts this year and has allowed 31 runs on 50 hits.
Reliever
Jake Mills is fourth amongst relievers and closers in the GNAC with an ERA of 1.95. In 32.1 innings pitched, Mills has allowed just seven runs on 33 hits while striking out 23 batters.
"This weekend's series is a big one for us." Head coach
Rob Bishop said. "Central is a very good club and we will need to get some wins in order to keep our post season hopes alive. Our focus this week is simply to get back to fundamentals and build momentum with some good practice sessions."
