Yellowjackets Cancel Games vs. OIT; Open GNAC play vs. WOU

BILLINGS, Mont. - The Montana State University Billings Baseball team has canceled their games against the Oregon Institute of Technology scheduled for Wednesday March 5th due to rain.  

Rain pounded the field and made the conditions unfit for playing.  MSUB opens Great Northwest Athletic Conference play against defending conference champions, Western Oregon University this weekend. 

The Yellowjackets (1-11) are being led by Brody Miller who has the best batting average in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference at .488.  He has 21 hits, which is tied for first in the GNAC, on 43 at bats, three doubles, two home runs and a tea leading 8 RBIs.  He is also second in the GNAC in slugging percentage (6.98) and is first in the GNAC in on base percentage .585.

Brad Birch is batting .220 with five doubles, seven RIBs and seven runs scored.  His five doubles currently have him ranked fifth in the GNAC in that category.

Luke Reinschmidt is batting .191 with one double, two triples and two RBIs.  He leads the GNAC in triples and is second in the GNAC in stolen bases with three. 

Matt Eames is 10th in the GNAC with a 4.32 ERA.  In 16.2 innings of work he has allowed 18 hits and right runs while striking out six.  Drew Christina is 12th in the GNAC with a 5.93 ERA.  He has gone 13.2 innings striking out 13 batters while allowing 18 hits and 12 runs. 

Reliever Jordan Knoll has the team's lowest ERA at 1.86.  In 9.2 innings he has allowed only two runs on ten hits while striking out eight opponents. 

The Wolves (9-8, 3-1 Great Northwest Athletic Conference) enters the four-game series after taking three of four versus Central Washington to open GNAC play last week. WOU, ninth in the West Region, opens the conference schedule with the second and third picked teams in the GNAC preseason poll. Western Oregon topped the rating, followed by CWU and Montana State Billings.

Matt Taylor is hitting a team-best .333, Nathan Etheridge is right behind at .327. Chris Bradshaw and Taylor are one and two in the GNAC in runs scored this season with 14 and 13. Etheridge and Daniel McNabb lead the conference with 11 RBI. Taylor is also first with six stolen bases. As a team, Western Oregon is 15th in NCAA Div. II with 15 double-plays.
