MSUB Baseball travels to take on Saints

BILLINGS Mont. – The Montana State University Billings Baseball team hits the road for the fifth straight week as they travel to take on Great Northwest Athletic Conference foe, Saint Martin's University in a four game series beginning on Friday, Mar. 14th.

MSU-Billings (2-14, 1-3 GNAC) is coming off a four game series against Western Oregon University.  The Wolves won the series 3-1. 

The Yellowjackets are being led by the GNAC"s leading hitter, Brody Miller who is batting .482 on 27 hits (which leads the GNAC) on 56 at bats.  He has team leading two homeruns on the year to go with four doubles and is tied for the team lead in RBI's with 10 which is good enough for seventh in the GNAC.  Miller is also second in the GNAC in slugging percentage (.661), leads the GNAC in on base percentage (592), and is fourth in the GNAC when runners are on base (4.76).

Brad Birch is the other Yellowjacket to have 10 RIB's and has a team leading five doubles.  Birch also has one homer and is batting .218 on the year and is 11th in the GNAC with runners on base (.308).  

Trevor Nix is 15th in the GNAC in batting with a .279.  He also has two doubles and four RBI's.  Luke Reinschmidt leads the GNAC in triples with two.  He is batting .220 so far this season and has three RBI's. 

The Jacket Pitching staff is paced by Matt Eames who is 10th in the GNAC among starting pitchers with a 3.97 ERA.  He has pitched 22.2 innings allowing 22 hits and 10 runs while striking out seven opponents.    

Drew Christina in 13th in the GNAC with an ERA of 5.79.  He had 20 strikeouts on the year and has allowed 21 hits and 16 runs. 

Jake Mills is ninth in the GNAC among relievers and closers and leads MSUB with a 2.03 ERA.  In 31.1 innings of work, Mills 14 hits, only three runs and has struck out nine batters. 

SMU (3-12, 1-3 GNAC) is being led by the reigning GNAC player of the week, Alex Bielaski. He is second in the GNAC with a .442 batting average and fifth with 23 hits. He ranks fourth with 12 RBI, a .442 on-base and a .519 slugging percentage. 

"This weekend is a huge weekend for us in GNAC play," head coach Rob Bishop said.  "The way the rest of the conference is bunched up it is very important for us to establish a good position moving forward.  St Martin's is always a competitive team and you can bet that they will come out ready to play.   Our guys are excited to get back on the field so it should be a fun series."
