Softball Loses First, Wins Second on Day Two of Desert Stinger

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2
LAS VEGAS, Nev. – The Montana State University Billings Softball team split their games on Day Two of the Desert Stinger.

Game One, Augustana College (S.D.)

On Saturday, Feb. 8, MSU Billings (5-3) opened their second day of the tournament losing a game against Augustana (S.D.) (4-0) on a walk-off home-run in the bottom of the seventh inning by a score of 0-2.

It was a tight game for the Yellowjackets and Vikings with no running crossing the plate until the last inning, with one out and the score tied at 0-0 that Augustana's Caitlin Nichol stepped to the plate and on a count of 1-1, sent a two-run shot out over the right field fence to end the game.

"I am proud of how the team played today," Head Coach Lisa Allen said. "Jessyka MacDonald pitched an amazing game against Augustana. Even though we out-hit them we didn't get the clutch hit when we needed it."

The Yellowjackets finished with eight hits, including a triple by Aubrey Conceicao in the fifth inning.  She finished 3-4 for the game.

Jessyka MacDonald (2-1) had nine strike-outs in the loss.

Game Two, Black Hills State University

The Yellowjackets took the second game 11-8.

MSUB's second game was a much different story than their first.  The Yellowjackets had 11 runs cross the plate on 16 hits, including a fifth inning that saw five runs cross the plate to take the lead back after being down 8-4.

MSU Billings' Kelsey Devlin and Bella Rovens both had three hits in the win including a double by Devlin in the first inning.

Designated player Brittney Sanders had a three-run home run in the fifth.

Mary Grace Bywater (3-0) recorded the win for the Yellowjackets after coming in to relieve Jessica Campbell in the fourth inning.

"In the second game against black hills state we dug ourselves a little hole in the first inning, but the team stayed up and fought back for the win," Coach Allen stated.  "Mary Grace Bywater came in and did her job by shutting them (Augustana) down in the last few innings. The offense also made some good adjustments to each new pitcher and continued to push runs across including Brittney Sanders 3 run home run."

The MSUB Yellowjackets have one game left in the Desert Stinger.  They will play Cal State Dominguez Hills at 11:30 AM Pacific Time on Sunday, Feb. 9.  Live video and live stats for that game can be found at MSUBSports.com.
