Yellowjackets to play Dixie State

BILLINGS, Mont. – The Montana State University Billings Baseball team is in St. George Utah for a showdown with Dixie State University this weekend.  The teams will play four games in three days spanning from Friday Feb. 21 through Sunday Feb. 23.

The Yellowjackets (0-4) got off to a rocky start last weekend when they ran into nationally ranked #2 NAIA powerhouse Lewis-Clark State.  The Warriors won all four games.

Game 1 went down to the wire, as the MSUB gave up a run in the bottom of the seventh that proved to be the difference as LSCS went onto the 5-4 win. Brody Miller blasted his first home run of the season, and added a double as he drove in three of MSUB's four runs. Miller drove in three more in Game 2, but the LC State offense took off in a 20-6 rout.

After losing the third game of the series 9-2, Jake Campeau had the best outing of the series of the Yellowjacket pitchers.  He struck out 10 LC State batters, only allowed three hits and two runs to score in the series finale, a 4-1 loss for the Yellowjackets.

After four games, MSUB is being led by Miller whose average is .600 (9-15).  He has the team's lone home run and six of the Yellowjackets 12 RBIs.  Luke Reinschmidt is batting .417 (5-12) and leads the team with three triples.

Campeau leads the pitching staff after his performance over the weekend. He has a 3.00 ERA from his six innings of work.  He faced 21 total batters in game four.  Jake Mills has a 2.45 ERA from 3.2 innings pitched allowing three hits and one run while striking out three Warriors.

Dixie State (0-7) has also had a rough start to their season getting swept in the games during their season opener by Cal Poly Pomona.  They followed that up by dropping four games to Colorado Mesa University.

The Red Storm so far are being led by Tyler Blair who carries a .393 batting average and leads the team in hits (11-28) and RBIs (three on the year).

"Dixie has a great program and we are looking forward to the challenge this weekend," Head Coach Rob Bishop said.  "Coming off of a series where we lacked consistency, our main objective is to play good baseball.  For us, we know that starts with pitching and defense.  Our guys are working hard each day and we will come out to compete this weekend."

The first game is scheduled to begin at 6:00 PM PT on Friday. Feb 21.  For more information including stats visit http://www.dixieathletics.com/index.aspx
