Box Score 2 LEWISTON, Ida. – The Montana State University Billings Baseball team dropped two games against #2 NAIA Lewis-Clark State Sunday afternoon, 9-2 and 4-1.
Game 1: MSUB 2 – LC-State 9
The Warriors scored in five consecutive innings during the first game while MSUB managed two runs through four innings.
Trevor Nix (1-2) got the Jackets on the board when he hit a single through the left side and pushed across
Brody Miller in the top of the fourth.
The next batter was
Brad Birch who drove a ball deep to center field for the sacrifice fly that was enough for
Blake Loran to advance home from third base and help MSUB close the gap to 4-2 in favor of LSCS.  But in the bottom of the innings, the Warriors would score two runs and push their lead to 6-2.
Three more runs in the Bottom of the fifth inning and the game was sealed 9-2.
Miller again led MSUB with two hits on three at bats.  Birch (0-3) finished with one RBI to match Nix who also had one RBI.
Joe Andriolo (0-1) was the Yellowjacket starter and pitched 4.0 innings allowing five hits and six runs.  2013 First team All-GNAC pitcher
Brady Muller came in relief of Andriolo and allowed four hits and three runs while striking out two Warriors in 3.0 innings of work.
Game 2: MSUB 1 – LC-State 4
Neither team was able to score a run until the fourth inning when MSUB again struck first.
Luke Reinschmidt began the inning with a single to right field.  Miller was the next batter who also belted a single to left field.  Two batter later, Loran reached first one a fielder's choice single which was able to push Reinschmidt across home plate and give MSUB the 1-0 led.
LS-State was able to strike back in the fifth inning, scoring two runs on three hits to take the led 2-1.
Neither the Jackets nor the Warriors could muster much more offense for the next three innings, but MSUB had a chance in the top of the seventh when they were able to get runners on first (
Bret Bitow) and second (Birch) but left the stranded on base as the next two Yellowjackets struck out swinging.
The Warriors were able to put the game on ice in the bottom of the eighth when they scored two more runs on three hits and one Yellowjacket error.  MSUB's last gasp was snuffed out in the top of the ninth when MSUB grounded into a double play to end the game and give the Warriors the 4-1 win.
Jake Campeau (0-1) had the best performance from the mound for the Yellowjackets during the entire series.  In 6.0 innings of work he faced 21 batters striking out a team high 10 of them while allowing only three hits and two runs.
The Yellowjackets fall to 0-4 on the young season and will next travel to play Dixie State University in St. George Utah.  The first game of the series is schedule for Friday Feb. 24th at 6:00 PM.
"We played poorly defensively in game one but our pitching really stepped up in game two," Head Coach
Rob Bishop said.
Jake Campeau got the loss on the game, but pitched a gem.  LC-State deserves their national ranking.  They have talent all over the field."
