WOMEN'S DAY 2 RESULTS MEN'S DAY 2 RESULTS
COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho –
Melissa Saken and the Montana State University Billings' women's golf team both placed third at the Great Northwest Athletic Conference presented by CDA.
Saken improved by four strokes from the first round with a 77 second round total. The junior's two-round total of 158 was seven strokes back from medalist position. The Yellowjacket women finished with a 673 total, just two strokes behind Saint Martin's.
On the men's side, MSU Billings remained in fourth place after entering the day in fourth. The Yellowjackets' 905 tournament-total came after a 301 third round score.
Gage Huft shot a 74 in both the first and second rounds, and the sophomore ended the championships with a 75. His 223 total score was eighth in the 25-golfer field.
Saken made a tournament-high 20 pars along with four birdies.
BreAnna Cameron and
Cayley Fish both had top 10 finishes. Cameron came in ninth after she had an eight-stroke improvement on Day 2 with an 81. Fish was 10th with an 85. All five Yellowjackets saw positive scorecard changes in the second round, as
Katie Fish (12th) and
Mariah Cleveland (13th) both shot 86 Tuesday.
Huft was one of two golfers to shoot under-par on par-three holes. Huft and
Eric Gravbrot led the field in pars made. Huft carded 37 pars, while Gravbrot made 40. Gravbrot placed 10th with a 224.
Brad Harrelson and
Marcus Drange tied in 16th after finishing at 229.
Houston Bradbury came in 25th with a 257.
Western Washington swept the women's and men's titles. The Viking men earned its sixth straight GNAC team title finishing 16 shots ahead of Saint Martin's. WWU ended up with an 867 total. The Saints had a 883 team score for the 54-hole event, eight ahead of third-place Simon Fraser. The Western Washington women won its third straight, and its victory margin was the largest in its three championships. It won by 19 shots in 2012 and 28 in 2011.
The Vikings' Kara Zitzman shot a five-over par 76 Tuesday - the best round of the day - to win medalist honors. Zitzman finished with a 36-hole total of 151, finishing two shots ahead teammate Claire Rachor, who carded an 80 after opening with a 73. Rachor, who entered the tournament as the GNAC's scoring leader, was last year's tourney medalist.
Western Washington's Jake Webb birdied the first playoff hole to win men's medalist honors. Webb, who shot a four-over-par 75 Tuesday, finished with a 54-hole score of 213, tying teammate Dylan Goodwin for first place. Goodwin carded his third straight 71. John Mlikotic of Simon Fraser finish third with a 215 total, just two shots back of Webb and Goodwin.
The GNAC office will announce the All-Conference postseason honors Wednesday. The Yellowjackets will wait for regional individual qualifying announcements that will be made by Friday.
