Rose Harrington went 1-for-3 in Game 2 with an RBI.
Cori Gammon was 2-for-3 in the second game.
“We didn't come out to play today,” MSU Billings' Head Coach
Lisa Allen said. “We gave them too much on defense and gave up too many free bases as a pitching staff and defense. Offensively, we had some runners on but couldn't come up with the clutch hit. We need to forget these two games and get ready for tomorrow.”
In the first game, CSUMB held the Yellowjackets scoreless until the sixth inning in the 5-1 victory. Neither team allowed a run until the fourth inning when Reinhardt crossed the plate on a throwing error. MSUB's
Amanda Todd allowed only two hits through the first four innings, while Reinhardt held Montana State Billings hitless through the first five innings.
The Otters broke the game open in the bottom of the fifth inning with four runs. Reinhardt singled up the middle bringing in Angelina Orozco and Theresa Torres. Two batters later with two outs, Nikki Rodriguez singled up the middle scoring Skyler Valdivia. Reinhardt stole home for the final run of the inning.
In the top of the sixth inning,
Aubrey Conceicao recorded the first MSUB hit with a single down the right field line. Three batters later, Osborn's one-out single to centerfield drove in Gammon for the lone Yellowjacket run. MSUB left seven runners on base.
Todd (2-3) was credited with the loss allowing three earned runs on four hits in 4.1 innings. She struckout one CSUMB batter and walked two others. Reinhardt fanned three Yellowjackets and walked three others.
Montana State Billings stranded seven runners on base in the 6-1 second game loss. After committing three errors in Game 1, MSUB played errorless softball in the second game. But, the Otters outhit MSU Billings, 12-6.
Lindsey Clarkson pitched a complete game for Cal State-Monterey Bay, and allowed one earned run on six hits. She improved to 9-4 and struck out five Yellowjackets.
Mary Grace Bywater (2-3) was recorded the loss.
Gammon opened the game with a single down the left field line. Three batters later Harrington doubled to left center, scoring Conceicao. MSUB stretched four hits over the rest of the game, and did not score again. The Otters scored two runs in the bottom of the first, three runs in the second inning, and one run in the fourth.
Osborn and
Aubrey Conceicao entered the doubleheader with the longest current hitting streaks in the conference at eight games. Conceicao failed to get a hit in the second game Tuesday, but Osborn now owns the longest current hitting streak in the GNAC at 10 games.
