BILLINGS, Mont. – The Montana State University Billings' softball team grabbed a split with Western Oregon University Saturday, 7-6 and 8-5.
The Yellowjackets (8-14, 7-8 GNAC) won their fourth straight game, and also snapped a three-game losing streak to WOU with the Game 1 victory.
Nicole Wilkerson hit a tying three-run home run in the bottom of the fifth inning. It was her team-leading fifth home run of the season. The senior was 2-for-3 at the plate with four RBI.
Aubrey Conceicao added the other three RBI. She also went 2-for-3. The sophomore has 15 RBI in the five home contests for MSUB.
Rose Harrington was 3-for-4, scoring twice, and
Cori Gammon went 2-for-2.
Mary Grace Bywater improved to 2-2 on the season. The sophomore allowed four earned runs on eight hits in the complete-game performance. She struck out seven Wolves, and walked three. Hannah Pomeroy (9-4) was credited with the loss. She allowed six earned runs on 12 hits in 5.1 innings for the Wolves.
Hannah Pomeroy took the loss and fell to 9-4 on the year after allowing six earned runs in 5.1 innings of work. Jourdan Williams led the WOU attack as she went 2-for-4 with a run and three RBI as her two-run home run in the fifth-inning gave the Wolves a 5-2 lead. Amanda Evola added a hit and three runs scored in the contest for WOU.
In the second game, Western Oregon (18-17, 9-5 GNAC) picked up an 8-5 win. Bridjet Box had three RBI, and went 2-for-2 at the plate with a home run and a double. The conference-leader in hits, Amanda Evola, added a home run.
The Wolves led for the entirety of the second contest, and improved to 5-9 all-time in Billings. Williams (6-9) recorded the win. She pitched 5.2 innings, allowing no earned runs on seven hits, and striking out three Yellowjackets.
Amanda Roark took the loss for MSUB and fell to 0-4 on the year after allowing four runs on two hits in 2.1 innings of work.
Emily Osborn and Wilkerson led MSU Billings with two hits apiece while Melanie Pfeiffer scored two runs for WOU in the victory.
Montana State Billings leaves for Sunday afternoon for a 22-hour drive to Monterey, Calif. The Yellowjackets are at Cal State-Monterey Bay (19-16, 12-12 California Collegiate Athletic Association) Tuesday. The doubleheader begins at 1 p.m. Pacific Time.
