JAMIE STEVENS POSTGAME DAVID ARNOLD POSTGAME

BILLINGS, Mont. – With the three-point school-record holder Markus Hallgrimson in the gym for Hall of Fame Weekend, Montana State University Billings' David Arnold scored 35 points behind seven three-pointers in an 83-78 win over Central Washington University Saturday.

Arnold paced the Yellowjackets (14-11, 7-7 Great Northwest Athletic Conference) with a team-season high 35 points. The senior was 10-of-20 from the field, including 7-for-11 from behind-the-arc. He also made all eight of his free-throw attempts. Arnold was the first MSUB player to score 35 since Antoine Proctor had 35 against Central Washington on Jan. 14, 2012. He was also the first player to make seven three-pointers in a game since Jaxon Myaer did at Simon Fraser last season.

Jarrell Crayton added 16 points on 5-of-10 shooting from the field. Kalob Hatcher scored 11, making all eight of his free-throw attempts. Robby Trabing grabbed nine rebounds, while Omar McDade dished out four assists.

The Wildcats outrebounded MSUB, 43-30, and had shooting advantage of 45 percent to 33 percent from the field. The 33 percent shooting was a season-low for the Yellowjackets. CWU did commit 20 turnovers, compared to MSU Billings' 13. The Yellowjackets were 34-of-38 from the free-throw line, and Central Washington was 10-for-12. The Wildcats dominated in the paint, 48-20, and had a 36-7 advantage in bench points.

Montana State Billings had an early 7-3 lead three minutes into the game, and led for the first 18 minutes of the game. McDade gave the Yellowjackets their largest lead of the first half, 29-21, with a pair of free throws at the 9:53 mark. Two minutes later, an Arnold lay-in gave MSU Billings another eight point lead, 33-25.

Central Washington answered with a 15-6 run over the next five minutes to take its first lead of the game, 40-39. A Dom Williams' lay-in on a fastbreak gave the Wildcats their lead. MSUB took the lead back with an Arnold three-pointer on the ensuing possession, but it was Jordan Starr that hit a three at the buzzer to give CWU a 45-44 lead at halftime.

The lead was never larger than two points through the first 10 minutes of the second half, and the game was tied five times. Central Washington trailed 55-53 with 13:12 remaining in regulation, but it went on a 7-0 run to take a five-point lead. Starr made a fastbreak lay-in with seven minutes left to give the Wildcats a 69-61 advantage.

The Yellowjackets closed within 71-69, but Central Washington added another basket to take a 73-69 lead with 2:17 remaining in the game. MSUB scored 12 of the next 14 points over a two-minute span to put the game away. MSU Billings made 11 of its 12 free-throws in the final two minutes.

Jordan Coby led CWU (13-10, 7-8 GNAC) with 21 points. He made eight of his 16 attempts from the field, including 3-of-8 from three-point range. Jordan Starr added 15 points. Derrick Davis had eight points, nine rebounds, and four blocks. As a team, the Wildcats had seven blocks. Joey Roppo had three assists.

The victory was only the fourth for Montana State Billings in 17 all-time meetings against Central Washington. The Wildcats had won the previous six meetings. It was the first win for Stevens against CWU. The last time the Yellowjackets last beat Central Washington on March 4, 2010, but the last MSUB win in Billings was on Feb. 3, 2001.

Central Washington dropped its third straight game, and fifth out of the last seven. Montana State Billings matches its longest win streak of the season. The Wildcats and MSUB switched spots in the conference standings following the game. The Yellowjackets moved to fifth, and CWU is sixth with just two weeks left in the regular season. MSU Billings is a game behind fourth place, and two games behind third.

Hallgrimson along with four other MSUB Athletic Hall of Fame inductees were in attendance at the game. The quintet was honored at the 24th induction ceremony Friday night. Hallgrimson holds six current NCAA Div. II national records, and six top school marks. He averaged 6.2 three-pointers made per game in 1999-2000, which is the NCAA Div. II record. That same season, he attempted 382 three-pointers, an average of 14.7 per game, both NCAA Div. II records. Hallgrimson averaged 11.3 three-point attempts per contest during his career, another NCAA Div. II record.

Montana State Billings has four regular season games remaining, with the final two at home. But, the Yellowjackets travel to Western Oregon and Saint Martin's for their next two contests. MSUB treks to Monmouth, Ore., for a matchup with Western Oregon Thursday. The Yellowjackets cruised to an 88-74 win over WOU on Jan. 26, in Billings. Thursday's matchup will have live video and stats on MSUBSports.com.
