Yellowjackets to Finish Whirlwind Tour

BILLINGS, Mont. – The Montana State University Billings Women's Basketball team is set to play their final game in a four game stretch over eight days against four different Montana schools.  The Yellowjackets will host Montana State University Northern in an early game Wednesday Nov. 27 at 5:30 PM.

The Montana State Billings women's basketball team has had quite a week.  Last Wednesday the team started their tour as they traveled to Bozeman to play an exhibition game against Montana State.  The Yellowjackets led by as much as 12 in the game, but MSU would end up with the win 58-49.  On Friday of that same week, MSUB would host the University of Great Falls in a game that featured an homage to teams of the past.  The players all wore uniforms based on designs from the 1980's, with "Eastern Montana College" on the front, and in the colors of black and gold.  The 'Jackets would top 100 for the first time in the season, getting the win 102-78.

Three days later, on Monday Nov. 25, MSU Billings would play their third Montana school and host Rocky Montana College.  It would be the second meeting of the season for the two teams, and a game that would count in the record books for the Yellowjackets.  MSUB would come out on top 85-58.

Tomorrow will be MSU Billings' final game before the Thanksgiving break and their final stop on the Eight Day Montana Tour.  They will host Montana State Northern in less than 48 hours from their win over Rocky.

"It was just the timing of the schedule this year to have those eight days with the four Montana schools," Assistant Coach Nate Harris said.  "We had the three non-exempted games at the Disney Classic Tip-Off early in the season, but then we also needed to get in some of our regular games before conference play begins in December.  It's just the nature of basketball in November."

This will be the 49th counted meeting between MSUB and MSUN.  The last time the two schools met was on Dec. 6, 2006.  MSU Billings won that contest 80-67.  The Yellowjackets are 27-21 all-time against the Skylights.  They have won the last three contests, and are 17-7 at home.

In the early season, Montana State Northern is 6-0, 0-0 Frontier.  The 'Lights are coming off of two big wins over non-conference opponents Pacific Union (78-58), and Nebraska-Kearney (73-57).  A'Jha Edwards and Kacie McKeon were the top-producers for MSUN.  Edwards finished with 32 points in the two games, and McKeon with 31.  Edwards also had a team high 25 rebounds over the two games, including 18 against Nebraska-Kearney.  McKeon also hit five three-pointers in the same contest.

The Yellowjackets are 4-2, 0-0 Great Northwest Athletic Conference.  Bobbi Knudsen and Kayleen Goggins are averaging 15.2 and 13.0 points per game, respectively.  Janiel Olson is leading the team in rebounds per game with 7.5.  MSUB is shooting 45 percent from the field and 30 percent from the three-point arc.

Wednesday's game between Montana State Billings and Montana State Northern is scheduled to begin at the early time of 5:30 PM.  Admission to the contest is ½ priced with the donation of a non-perishable food item.  The Student-Athletic Advisory Committee is collecting the items; all proceeds to benefit the local High School Food Pantry in Billings.

"MSU Northern is very fundamentally sound," Head Coach Kevin Woodin said.  "They will give us a great challenge, but I like the depth of our team and that should help us with the short turn-around."
