HUNTLEY, Mont. – The Montana State University Billings men's golf team won the third annual Yellowjacket Invitational after shooting a school-record 281 as a team in the second round Friday.
MSUB's

“Our men's finish was impressive,” MSUB head coach Shawn O'Brien said. “Yesterday we didn't perform at our finest, but today we came back with the school record seven-under par. Everyone just played awesome and it was great to see.”
The Yellowjacket men entered the final round in sixth place in the eight-team field. Montana State Billings shot a 313 on Thursday, before shooting 32 strokes better a day later. The top four golfers for MSUB all shot under par in the final round, led by Huft. The sophomore was five-under-par Friday, after shooting a 73 Thursday. Huft made nine birdies and 23 pars in the win.
“I was pleased with how our team played,” Huft said. “Getting the win felt great, after coming back from yesterday. It feels like the comeback of the century. It's all day-to-day. Golf can be like that. You can get on a roll and get some momentum, and you just roll with it. Today, I hit the ball good. I hit a lot of good shots and made some putts, and it showed.”
Huft and Daniel Thompsett were the only golfers to shoot under par in the tournament. Rocky Mountain's Thompsett finished three strokes behind Huft with a 143 total. He shot 72 in the final round. The Yellowjackets'
Marcus Drange came in third shooting two-over, Zach Maasen of Montana Tech was fourth, and South Dakota Mines' Andrew Jerman and Bryan Schulte tied for fifth.
Montana State Billings' “A” team rallied on the second day, edging Rocky Mountain by two strokes. The Battlin' Bears shot 20-over in the tournament, finishing with a 299 on Friday. Carroll College came in third, followed by Rocky Mountain's “B” team, and the Yellowjackets' “B” team in fifth.
On the women's side, Rocky Mountain grabbed the team title behind Anderson's first place individual finish. The Battlin' Bears were able to hold off the host Yellowjackets by seven strokes. RMC had a 10-stroke advantage over Montana State Billings after the first day. Rocky Mountain shot a 321 in the first round and a 328 Friday.
“It was great to see our women comeback today; a second place finish is always great,” O'Brien said. “I think we have a lot of depth and we're looking forward to the upcoming event this week in Colorado.”
The top four finishers were separated by only four strokes. Anderson's 155 total just beat out MSUB's
Katie Fish, who finished with a 156 total. Anderson shot a 77 on day one and a 78 on day two. Fish had a 79 the first day and a 77 in the final round. Anderson had three birdies and 23 pars, while Fish had three birdies and 21 pars. Rocky Mountain's Katy Peterson came in third with a 157 finish. The Yellowjackets'
Cayley Fish was in fourth at 159, and Carroll's Jackie Mee placed fifth.
In the women's team standings, Great Falls placed third with a 698 total. Alexa Bell had the top finish for the Argos, placing sixth with a 167. Carroll and Montana Tech came in fourth and fifth place.
