Softball Conquers Clan in Postponed Doubleheader, Scores 18 in Second Game

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

BURNABY, B.C.
– Mother Nature played her own games Sunday and Monday, causing the second game of a Great Northwest Athletic Conference doubleheader between the Montana State University Billings softball team and the Clan of Simon Fraser University to span two days. When the weather finally let up, the Yellowjackets were able to finish what they started and downed the Clan 18-6 after beating the SFU 6-2 in Sunday's first game.

Following the opening weekend of GNAC play for MSUB, the Yellowjackets improve to 6-3 and start their conference campaign off 3-1 in the league while the Clan moves to 9-4 and 5-3 in the league.

“Our team played true Yellowjacket softball yesterday,” said head coach Lisa Allen. “Everyone was involved in the game and all the starters, pinch hitters and runners did their jobs. Our pitchers, Amanda Todd and Kasie Conder, continued to stay strong in the circle. Overall, this was a great start for our team for this long trip.”

In the first game on Sunday, MSUB jumped out to an early, 3-0 lead in the third inning off four hits and an SFU error. Rose Harrington, Meg Harasymczuk, Emily Osborn and Annaleisha Parsley all recorded hits in the top of the inning with Harasymczuk, Osborn and Parsley all scored.

In the top of the next inning, the Yellowjackets moved two more runners across the plate to score to go up 5-0 before the Clan scored their only two runs of the game in the bottom of the inning.

MSUB added one final run in the top of the seventh inning as the Yellowjackets out-hit the Clan 11-4 and capitalized on five SFU errors.

Jessica Campbell earned her second positive decision of the season to improve to 2-0 for the season with Todd entering to earn the save in three innings of work.

C Lukawesky suffered just her second loss of the season, moving to 6-2 as she failed to strike out a single batter in the first game.

Sunday's second game made it to the second inning with the score 4-2 before the game was postponed due to inclement weather.

When the teams picked the action back up, MSUB seemed to struggle a little early, giving up the tying runs in the bottom of the second inning, but from there, the Yellowjackets would be relentless as they went on to out-score the Clan 14-2 over the final four innings. MSUB also out-hit Simon Fraser 19-11 and capitalized on four SFU errors.

The big inning for the Yellowjackets came in the seventh inning as the bats really got hot. The Yellowjackets scored seven runs off four hits in the final inning of the game and batted around the order to record their biggest win of the young season.

Outfielders Bobbie Lee and Harasymczuk along with catcher Nicole Wilkerson led the way at the plate for MSUB. Lee went 4-for-5 with an RBI and scored three runs while Harasymczuk went 3-for-6 with four RBIs and two runs scored. Wilkerson went 3-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored.

Kasie Conder went four innings in the circle in the second game to record the win after Amanda Todd started the game with three innings of work. Todd also struck out three batters.

The Yellowjackets had to make a quick turnaround as they will face-off against the Vikings of Western Washington University today at 5 p.m. The first game of the conference doubleheader was slated to start at 1 p.m., but due to snow, the game has been pushed back to 5 p.m. Pacific time.
