Yellowjackets Swept by Crusaders in Doubleheader

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

NAMPA, Idaho – After having weather push back the dates of this weekend's Great Northwest Athletic Conference's baseball games, the Montana State University Billings baseball team suffered another pair of losses, this time at the hands of the Crusaders of Northwest Nazarene University Monday afternoon.

The Crusaders (13-9, 2-4) claimed the first game 1-0 in the sixth inning before taking the second game 13-2 over the Yellowjackets (4-10, 1-5).

“I have to give NNU credit, their pitching was good today,” said head coach Rob Bishop. “We are capable of playing at a much higher level than this, so we will keep working at it. Samuel Paterson threw another gem today, but their staff was just as tough on us.”

Zach Steele was the hero for the Crusaders with his solo home run off Samuel Paterson to lift NNU to Victory.

Paterson went seven innings for the Yellowjackets giving up five hits and striking out two batters. With the loss, he falls to 0-3 on the season while Zeb Sneed claimed the win on the mound for NNU to improve to 4-2.

In the second game, NNU edged out to an early 2-0 lead in the first inning. After the Yellowjackets tied the score back up at two-all with Ty Gilmore and Blake Nelson crossing the plate in the top of the third inning, NNU relentlessly added 11 more runs over the next three innings. The Crusaders added four runs in the bottom of the third inning, six more in the fourth and their final run crossed in the fifth inning.

The Yellowjackets utilized a deep pitching staff with Matt Eames going the first 2.2 innings, striking out three batters to suffer the loss. Charles Pollock secured the win for the Crusaders to improve to 3-1 on the season after fanning five strikeouts.

MSUB and NNU will continue their rivalry tomorrow morning with an 11 a.m. doubleheader.
