Yellowjacket Men to Face Wolves in Tournament’s First Round

BILLINGS, Mont. – The regular-season is over and the slate has been wiped clean. The Montana State University Billings men's basketball team will hope to utilize what they learned during the regular-season while now turning their focus to the 2012  Great Northwest Athletic Conference Basketball Championships hosted by Saint Martin's University in Lacey, Wash.

The Yellowjacket men ended their 2011-12 campaign under first-year head coach Jamie Stevens 15-11 overall and finished their league-slate with a 10-8 mark to finish fifth in the final GNAC standings to earn the fifth-seed in the conference tournament.

By earning the fifth seed in the tournament, the Yellowjackets will challenge the fourth-seeded Wolves of Western Oregon University on Wednesday, Feb. 29 at 7:30 p.m.

The Yellowjacket men boast the second-highest scoring offense in the league, averaging 82.2 points per game heading into Wednesday's game. Part of that high-scoring offense can be attributed to the fact that MSUB leads the conference in three-pointers made per game at 9.5 as a team. MSUB was led this season by the senior-tandem of Antoine Proctor and Jaxon Myaer who were both named to the GNAC all-conference team. The Washington, D.C. native is also second on the team with 4.9 rebounds per game and a .333 shooting percentage from three-point range while also shooting a team-third-best .426 from the field.

Proctor's team-leading 62 total steals also have him second in the conference in the category with 2.4 per outing.

Myaer, who averages a team-second-best 14.4 points per game, finished the regular-season leading the team with 115 assists while his .470 overall shooting percentage has him second on the squad. The Salt Lake City native's 4.4 assists per game has him fourth in the GNAC while his team-leading .435 three-point percentage leaves him ninth.

Robert Mayes is the Yellowjackets' leader on the boards as he averages a conference-eighth-best 7.2 rebounds per game. Mayes also averages 10.8 points per game and is second in shooting percentage with and has 32 blocked shots on the season.

The Wolves, who have won four of their last six games, have the third-best scoring defense as they have held their opponents this season to an average of 65.3 points per game while also holding their opposition to a league-second-lowest .415 shooting percentage.
