Myaer, Henning Post Solid Performances to Lead Yellowjacket Men to Victory

Box Score

BURNABY, B.C. – Jaxon Myaer had a career-high 33 points off a 12-17 shooting performance from the field that included draining nine three-pointers and fellow senior Emery Henning recorded a double-double performance as the Montana State University Billings men's basketball team dropped Simon Fraser 94-74 Thursday night.

With the victory, the Yellowjackets are now 15-10 and 10-7 in Great Northwest Athletic Conference action while the Clan, now in the midst of a four-game losing skid, is now 8-17 overall which includes a 3-14 record in the league.

“I was proud of how our guys played tonight especially in the second half,” said first-year head coach Jamie Stevens. “Jaxon Myaer and Emery Henning were huge for us tonight and David Arnold hot some pretty big shots for us down the stretch. It was a total team effort as everybody contributed in one way or another. Now, we have to focus on the huge challenge ahead of us on Saturday night.”

That huge challenge comes in the form of traveling to nationally-ranked Western Washington University on Saturday night. The Vikings are currently 14th in the nation.

The Yellowjackets were clearly the more dominate team on the hardwood Thursday night as they hit on 55% (33-60) of their shots from the field and out-rebounded the Clan 39-29. MSUB even shot over 50% (14-27) from three-point range as Myaer drained four more treys than the entire Simon Fraser squad.

Myaer's dominating performance came in 34 minutes of work as the senior guard from Salt Lake City, Utah went 12-17 from the field and 9-13 from three-point range to tally his 33 points. He also added a game-high-tying four assists, two steals and two rebounds.

Henning posted a double-double against the Clan as he recorded 14 points off a 6-7 shooting performance and brought down a game-high 10 rebounds.

Antoine Proctor added 16 points as he hit four of his nine looks from the field while also draining seven of his eight shots from the free throw line and David Arnold added another 11 points as he was a perfect 4-for-4 from the field.

Simon Fraser was led by Justin Brown's 21 points and Jordan Sergent's 20 points as the Clan managed to shoot 40.7% (24-59) from the field. Brown and Sergent combined to go 14-17 from the charity stripe and Sergent just missed out on a double-double as he brought down a team-high nine boards.

Despite holding just a one-point (39-38) advantage heading into halftime, the MSUB men were able to establish themselves as the team that wanted it more in the second half, coming out to shoot 57.1% in the second half.

With 6:30 remaining in the game, Arnold sank a jumper from the paint to extend MSUB's lead out to double-digits, and the 'Jackets would cruise to the 20-point victory from there.

MSUB will now turn their focus on the nationally-ranked Vikings as they will travel to Bellingham, Wash. on Saturday in hopes of continuing their momentum into the 2012 GNAC basketball tournament.
