Baseball Bounces Back on Sunday with 7-2 Win Over Thunderwolves

Box Score

PUEBLO, Colo.
Head coach Rob Bishop promised some adjustments would be made following the Montana State University Billings baseball team's pair of losses on Saturday to Colorado State University – Pueblo, and his words proved true as the Yellowjackets easily defeated the Thunderwolves 7-2 on Sunday afternoon.

Following the early four-game series, both squads are now 2-2.

"Offensively we competed at a much higher level today," said Bishop. "Brady was outstanding today as he showed great composure on the mound for a freshman making his first collegiate start. Our dugout had great energy as well, and this was just a great team win."

Montana State Billings scored a single run in the second inning and then went on to score runs in the third, fifth and ninth innings to record the win. CSU – Pueblo registered both of their runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to make the score 3-2, but would then falter down the stretch allowing the Yellowjackets to stretch the lead back out.

MSUB not only out-scored the Thunderwolves 7-2, they also out-hit CSU – Pueblo 12-6.

The big inning for MSUB was the top of the fifth inning when Mack Unruh led off with a single to center field to get on base. Colby Robison would eventually bat Unruh in, leaving two runners on base for the Yellowjackets still on base and no outs registered.

The Thunderwolves attempted to make a pitching change to keep things close, but the new pitcher, C. Bishop, walked Brody Miller to load the bases before walking his second batter in a row in Cole McPherson to score another run.

Another pitching change produced CSU – Pueblo's first out of the inning in a strikeout, but the next at bat saw Blake Nelson bat Robison home to score the third run of the inning.

Trevor Wilson and Unruh led the way at the plate. Wilson went 2-for-3 at the dish with a run scored while Unruh went 2-for-4 and had a pair of runs scored.

Brady Muller pitched six solid innings for the Yellowjackets, striking out five batters as he recorded his first win of the year.

CSU – Pueblo utilized a small village for their pitching staff, sending six different hurlers to the mound during the game, but it was starting pitcher Kyle Ginter who suffered the loss on the hill after just two innings of work that saw him give up three earned runs.

MSUB will now get a week off before they travel to St. George, Utah where they will take on Dixie State College in a pair of doubleheaders on Sunday, March 4 and Monday, March 5. Both games are slated to start at 2 p.m.
