Baseball Drops Doubleheader to Thunderwolves

PUEBLO, Colo.
– Late in yesterday's season-opener against Colorado State University – Pueblo, the momentum dramatically swung in favor of the Thunderwolves and that momentum continued into Saturday as the Montana State University Billings baseball team dropped both games of a doubleheader to CSU – Pueblo 2-1 and 12-3 Saturday afternoon.
 
The Yellowjackets now hold a 1-2 record for the young 2012 season while the Thunderwolves are 2-1.
 
“I am disappointed with our effort offensively today,” head coach Rob Bishop stated. “We are capable of much more production. We will make some adjustments and come out tomorrow ready to compete. I am very pleased with Sam Paterson, he was terrific today in his first outing for us. He definitely deserved a win today.”
 
They dropped the first game 2-1 with Brody Miller earning the Yellowjackets an early lead off a home run in the second inning but CSU-Pueblo got two runs, one in the sixth and one in the seventh, to win claim the win.
 
Sam Paterson gave up two runs but struck out four batters in the first game to claim the loss while Mike Fabrizio fanned eight Yellowjackets to claim the win.
 
The second game was not much better for the Yellowjackets as CSU – Pueblo scored five runs in the first inning. They followed that up with two runs in the third, two more in the fourth, a solo run in the fifth and finally two more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.
 
Ty Gilmore scored one run for MSUB while Austin Rue had the other two runs in the second game. Gilmore went 1-for-2 at the plate to lead the Yellowjackets in the second game, going 3-for-6 at the dish for the day.
 
Brian Hutchings suffered his first loss of the season, striking out three batters in three innings of work of the second game while Brandon Evans went five innings to claim his first win of the year.
 
The Yellowjackets and Thunderwolves will hit the diamond one more time this weekend at 12 p.m. tomorrow.
