BILLINGS, Mont. – The Montana State University Billings men's basketball team ended the home portion of their 2011-12 season with an 83-73 win over the Crusaders of Northwest Nazarene Saturday night inside Alterowitz Gymnasium, giving their seniors a fitting departing gift on “Senior Night.”
With the win, MSUB improves to 14-9 overall and 9-6 in conference action while the Crusaders move to an even 11-11 overall that includes a 5-9 record in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference.
The Yellowjackets connected on 44.4% (24-54) of their looks from the field and were 10-24 from beyond the three-point arc.
Four of MSUB's six seniors scored in double digits led by
Antoine Proctor and
Jaxon Myaer with 16 points each. Myaer went 5-8 from the field and drilled four three-pointers to lead the team.
Behind the pair of guards,
Robert Mayes and
Chase Richards added 13 and 11 points respectively while junior
David Arnold rounded out the players in double-digit points with 10.
Senior
Emery Henning had a team-high eight rebounds to go along with his nine points in the game as he went 3-5 from the field.
NNU was able to out-shoot the Yellowjackets as the Crusaders hit 28 of their 59 looks from the field (47.5%) but were only able to get eight of their 23 three-point attempts to go in.
Just two players scored in double-digits for NNU with Anthony Golden's 22 points. The game-high came off a 9-14 outing from the floor and included a 4-7 performance from three-point range. Jonathan Hawkins added 13 points of his own and led the team with four assists.
The Yellowjackets out-scored the Crusaders in most every aspect of the game including 19-9 off of turnovers, 14-8 off second-chance looks and 18-14 in points off the bench.
MSUB will now hit the road for a trio of GNAC games to end the regular season. They will next be in action on Saturday, Feb. 18 at Seattle Pacific University.
