Women’s Basketball Road Swing Begins in Seattle

BILLINGS, Mont. – The Montana State Billings women's basketball team split their home Great Northwest Athletic Conference games last week with a 58-53 win over Northwest Nazarene University squad and a 59-65 loss to Central Washington University.
 
MSUB enters this weekend's lone game against Seattle Pacific University with a 12-7 overall record and an even 4-4 mark in GNAC play to sit fifth in the league. The Falcons currently boast a 12-4 overall record that includes a 6-2 record in conference action. SPU, currently second in the conference standings, may not be nationally-ranked at this time, but they received votes in the most recent NCAA Division II national poll.
 
In the series between the two programs, the Falcons own a slight 20-16 advantage over the Yellowjackets that includes a 15-4 mark in Seattle. Last season, MSUB swept the two games between the squads by earning a 59-50 win in Seattle and a 54-51 victory in Billings.
 
Bobbi Knudsen recorded a team-high 33 points between the two games last week and is currently leading the conference with 16.8 points per outing and 319 total points. The Malta High School product is currently in the top-10 in the GNAC in five other categories that include leading the league with 72 assists to leave her fifth in the conference with 3.8 assists per game. Knudsen is also seventh in free throw percentage (.815), ninth in steals per game (1.8) and is tied with fellow returning starter Kalli Stanhope for ninth in the GNAC with 1.6 treys per game.
 
The lone senior on head coach Kevin Woodin's squad, Stanhope leads the team from beyond the arc with a .385 three-point shooting performance which is tied for 8th in the league.
 
Just behind Knudsen, Quinn Peoples is averaging a team second-best 10.7 points per game which goes up to 13.8 points per conference outing after the Butte native recorded 28 points between the Yellowjackets' two games last week. She is also second on the team in free throw percentage, hitting on just over 89% (33-37) of her chances from the charity stripe, and she is currently third on the team with a .339 shooting average (40-118) from three-point range.
 
Fellow freshman Kayleen Goggins has risen to third on the team in scoring, averaging 8.6 points per game to go along with a team second-best 5.1 rebounds per game while Janiel Olson continued to flex her muscle under the net last week to corral in 24 total boards over the two games. The Billings West High School product is currently averaging a team-best and GNAC sixth-most 8.5 rebounds per game that goes up to 9.3 per league game as she has 162 total rebounds this season.
 
For Seattle Pacific, Katie Benson is third in the league with an average of 16.4 points per outing but Rachel Murray leads the team and is ninth in the conference in shooting percentage as she is currently converting over 50% (57-112) of her shots from the field. Benson is also 12th in the GNAC as she is currently averaging 6.9 boards per game while Murray is eighth in the league with an .814 (35-43) from the free throw line.
 
Betsy Kingman leads the conference from three-point range, hitting .491 (26-53) of her looks which has her eighth in total treys made this season.
 
The Falcons boast the third-best rebounder in the league in Nyesha Sims with 8.8 rebounds per game. The majority of her boards are coming off the defensive glass (109 of her 132 total rebounds) which is a GNAC second-best.
