Cheer Team Posts Tryout Information

Tryout Event Information:
Live tryouts only *
Date: September 18th
Time: 9am to 12:00pm
Location: Alterowitz Gym
1500 University Drive
 
 
 
* A participation waiver is on our MSUB Cheer page and must be signed and turned in before any individual may participate in tryouts. This is in conjunction with MHSA guidelines as we will produce appropriate spotters for your stunts. This notice is to inform you of the inherent risk to collegiate cheerleading that includes the potential of minor to major injury. Such injuries may include, but are not limited to, exhaustion, sprains, strains, bruises, dislocations, lacerations, broken bones and cervical spine injuries. Participation in the tryout process is at your own risk. Neither MSU Billings nor the MSUB Cheer coaching staff may be held responsible for any injuries that may occur to video or live tryout participation during or after the tryout process. You must be 18 years of age to sign participation waiver. Parent or legal guardian may sign the waiver for the attendee.
 
 
 
 
Cheer requirements:
You will be required to perform one cheer you will be taught during the tryout. You will say it twice and do it 3 times in a row.
 
 
Dance requirements:
You will be required to learn a 4 eight count dance you will be taught during tryouts.
 
You are required to perform a dance of your own at least 4 eight counts.
 
 
Mandatory Jumps and Kicks at tryouts:
 
1. Right and left standard kicks
2. Toe Touch
3. Pike
4. Herkie-front right or both
5. Front Hurdler
 
 
Required Mandatory Tumbling:
Cartwheel
Round off
Splits-both ways
 
Stunting requirements:
Basing Males-chose 3
Cups, Chairs, Purdue, Genies, Sit to Stand, Toss Toe Touch
 
Female Flyers-chose 3
Cups, Chairs, Purdue, Genies, Sit to Stand, Toss Toe Touch
 
Female Basing:
1. Half and Full elevator cradle
2. Base or Post Cups, Genies, Sit to Stand
  
 
 
 
Resume for Cheer/Stunt participants:
Due at tryouts
Each resume must consist of the following:
1. Full name
2. Address
3. Phone number
4. Full length body photograph. (Photo does not have to be a professional photograph. Photos will not be returned.)
5. Current education situation including:
a. School of Attendance
b. Current Cumulative GPA and gpa for your 4 years of high school and any college gpa years.
c. Field of educational interest.
d. Community Service experience in detail of what you have participated in. (Community service is a key element to our team)
e. Additional groups you have been involved in.
6. Synopsis of prior cheer and dance experience (or list other athletic activities if no prior cheer and or dance experience.)
7. Coach's email or phone number to contact for references.
 
 
*Note: Resumes do not need to be typed. Resumes and photos will not be returned.  Resumes must be received at tryouts or you will be docked  15 points from tryout scores.
  
 
 
 
 
 
TRYOUTS ARE MANDATORY FOR ANY PERSON SEEKING A POSTION ON THE MONTANA STATE UNIVERSITY CHEER/STUNT TEAM.
*Tryouts are not open for anyone but MSUB staff and tryout members.*
 
 
Any individual may try out for a position on the MSU Billings Cheer/Stunt team. However, once offered a position, every person must meet the following requirements by the beginning of the fall 2011 semester to be an official member of the MSU Billings Cheer/Stunt team.
 
1.    2.00 cumulative GPA and in good standing academically with the university if you fall below the 2.0 required GPA you will be dismissed off the team and required to turn in your uniform immediately no exceptions.
 
2. Scholarships-(given in January for spring semester tuition waivers you cannot have another tuition credit so check that with financial aid please) will be based off of 2.5 GPA and above.
 
3. Enrolled at Montana State University-Billings with at least 14 credits/semester.  15-18 credits are recommended by MSUB Athletic Policy.
 
4. Follow all academic rules and regulations for the University and Athletic Department. No drinking, smoking or drugs.
 
 
Judging Information
The judging panel will consist of MUSB Head Coach, Assistant Coach and Captain along with a potential of additional judges.
 
 
 
Judging
15 points-Cheer resume
5 points-Individual cheer- (say it 2x, do it 3x)
15 points-Individual Cheer dance-(4-6 eight counts)
10 points for dance of your own
10 points-jumps
25 points-Stunting
10 points-Attitude and Appearance.
 
Tryout attire:
1. Dark shorts
2. Solid color t-shirt or MSU B Shirt
3. Cheer/dance shoes
4. Long hair must be worn up in a pony tail or bun, bangs out of face
5. Men clean shaven
6. Absolutely no jewelry of any kind (piercings' included)
 
Tryout Results for Stunt team
You will be contacted with results within 3 hours of tryouts via phone or email. Practices are immediate starting September 19th and will be every Monday and Thursday. Games and practices are mandatory.
