SPOKANE, Wash. -- Six players from the Montana State Billings softball team have been named to the 2011 Great Northwest Athletic Conference All-Conference list, the conference office announced Tuesday. Junior
Meg Harasymczuk was also named
GNAC Newcomer of the Year as part of the announcement.
Harasymczuk, who is a transfer from Southwestern Oregon Community College, batted .353 for Montana State Billings and finished the regular-season tied for third in the conference in home runs (14) and runs batted in (39).
The Yellowjackets had three players named to the first team, led by three-time first team selection,
Kelly Parsons. Parsons was one of four unanimous selections on the list. Joining her on the first team were Harasymczuk and junior outfielder
Bobbie Lee.
Named to the second team and earning their first nominations to the all-conference list were freshman pitcher
Amanda Todd, senior first baseman
Kaycee Hoffman and junior third baseman
Nicole Colpron.
Central Washington shortstop Samantha Petrich and Western Washington pitcher Erika Quint have been selected the GNAC Softball Player of the Year and Pitcher of the Year, respectively. Western Washington first-year coach Amy Suiter was selected the GNAC Coach-of-the-Year, while second baseman Lacey McGladrey of Saint Martin's was voted the GNAC Freshman-of-the-Year.
With their six selections, the Yellowjackets had the second most players to earn all-conference honors. Central Washington, which won its second straight GNAC title, led the all-star selections placing four players on the first team, seven overall, including Petrich, pitcher Lauren Hadenfeld, designated player Carrina Wagner and third baseman Kelsey Haupert.
