BILLINGS, Mont. -- Saturday afternoon the Montana State Billings softball team will honor its four seniors on the 2011 squad with senior day ceremonies as the surging Yellowjackets take the field against Northwest Nazarene in their season finale doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. at Cenex Stadium.
Seniors
Kaycee Hoffman,
Angela Lingle,
Tarn Potter and
Kelly Parsons will take to the field for the final time in their Yellowjacket careers. The seniors have been a key piece in the Yellowjackets late season success, as MSUB is currently on a seven game winning streak and have now won 11 of their last 13.
MSUB is coming off a two game series sweep of conference leading Central Washington University Thursday afternoon at home. A
Jenna VanEykeren home run in the bottom of the seventh in game one and a two out double in the bottom of the seventh by Hoffman lifted the Yellowjackets over CWU 3-1 and 9-8, respectively.
The Yellowjackets are taking on a Northwest Nazarene squad that took three of four earlier in the season in Nampa. Since then the Yellowjackets are 20-9 and will be looking to split the season series with the Crusaders with a sweep.
After Thursday,
Bobbie Lee leads the team offensively with a .410 batting average, scoring 26 runs with four home runs and 11 RBI. Parsons is hitting .400 with 12 home runs and 32 RBI on the season.
The Crusaders will enter the doubleheader after dropping a 1-0 game Thursday afternoon to Western Washington in Nampa. The first game of their doubleheader was cancelled due to rain.
NNU is 17-28 overall on the season and are 16-17 in the conference. They are led by Elizabeth Beaty who is hitting .319 with 12 homers and a team-high 24 RBI. Kristin Refsland is the only Crusader batting over .300, hitting .313 with 31 hits and 15 RBI.
The Yellowjackets will plan to begin the senior day ceremonies at 12:40 p.m. with first pitch scheduled to be thrown at 1 p.m. The Yellowjackets will still have to wait another week after the NNU series to find out if they will be participating in the NCAA west regional.
