Men’s Basketball Riding Hot Streak into GNAC Tournament

BILLINGS, Mont. – It hasn't been quite the season the Montana State Billings men's basketball team was hoping for, but after three consecutive victories to end the season, the Yellowjackets could erase many of those memories with three victories and a Great Northwest Athletic Conference championship.

The Yellowjackets will look to play the role of Cinderella starting Monday evening in Ellensburg, Wash., as the 8th seeded Yellowjackets take on the top-ranked Wildcats of Central Washington in the first round of the GNAC Tournament.

In order to bring home a conference title the Yellowjackets will have to play three consecutive road games during a five day stretch. But the Yellowjackets, with their new vigor and energy, enter the tournament as one of the hottest teams with wins over the No.3 (SPU) and No.4 (WWU) seeded teams in this week's tournament.

Over the final three games the Yellowjackets have shot 50.6 percent from the field and 68.8 percent from the free throw line. During that same stretch the Yellowjackets have out-rebounded their opponents by 4.0 rebounds per game and have forced 18 more turnovers (47) than they've committed (29).

The entire team has stepped up their production as six different players are averaging double-figures. Down the stretch junior forward Robert Mayes has averaged 15.3 points and 7.0 rebounds per game. Emery Henning has also improved his output, averaging 14.3 points per games underneath.

Jaxon Myaer and DeAndre Chambers have put their stamp on the late-season surge by becoming distribution experts. The duo has combined for 41 assists as Myaer is averaging 11.0 points, while Chambers has averaged 10.7 over the final three contests.

The Yellowjackets and the Wildcats will tip-off at 7 p.m. PST Monday evening at Nichols Pavilion. The game can be seen and followed on webcast and live stats through the Central Washington website: http://www.wildcatsports.com/index.aspx
