LAS VEGAS –
After a tremendous start on Friday at the 2nd Annual MSUB Desert Stinger, the Montana State Billings softball team was unable to generate any type of offense in their two complete games Saturday afternoon, dropping decisions to Augustana College (8-0) and No.14 Grand Canyon (7-1).

The Yellowjackets (2-2) also picked up and early morning win over Dixie State College (9-5) in a game that was continued after the lights went out do to a city ordinance pertaining the lights at the ball park.

MSUB needed just two outs in the bottom of the seventh to close the door on the Red Storm as they picked up at 11 a.m. on Saturday. With a runner standing on second, Annaleisha Parsley threw a wild pitch allowing the runner to advance to third. Parsley then closed the game out by getting a pop up and a ground out to short to end the game.

The Jackets built their 9-5 lead late Friday night behind the hot bats of Meg Harasymczuk and Kaycee Hoffman who combined for six hits in seven at bats. The duo also scored six times and collected four RBI in the game. Hoffman had her first two home runs of the season during the game.

Parsley earned her first win as a Yellowjacket, throwing a complete game with five runs, four earned, on seven hits. She walked six batters and fanned five in the victory.

The Yellowjackets earned only two hits during their outing against Augustana in the 12 p.m. game. MSUB fell behind early in the first when a pair of errors led to three runs in the inning for the Vikings. The damage was contained until Augustana busted the game open with four runs in the inning, including a three-run home run.

Amanda Todd took her first loss of her Yellowjacket career, hurling 4.2 innings with eight runs, two earned, on seven hits. She also struck out six batters that she faced in the loss.

In the final game of the afternoon, Grand Canyon shut down the Jackets behind a solid pitching performance that saw a one-hitter with two walks and nine strike outs. The only run was a Harasymczuk home run, her first of the season, over the left centerfield fence.

Parsley threw five solid innings where she gave up just two runs before surrendering five runs in the sixth inning. For the game she went 6.0 innings, allowing 15 hits with seven runs, six earned, and seven strikeouts. She fell to 1-1 on the year.

The Yellowjackets will look to finish the 2nd Annual Desert Stinger on a winning note, taking on Humboldt State tomorrow afternoon at 12 p.m. The Yellowjackets will then return to Billings to prepare for the conference season opener in Monmouth, Ore., on February 26th and 27th.
