Jackets Fall to Crusaders on the Road, 79-64

NAMPA, Idaho –
DeAndre Chambers and Robert Mayes combined for 33 of the Montana State Billings men's basketball team's 64 total points in a 79-64 setback at Northwest Nazarene Thursday evening in Great Northwest Athletic Conference play. The Yellowjackets fall to 5-16 on the season and 3-11 in conference play, while NNU moved to 9-11 on the year and 5-8 in league play.

 

Chambers scored a team-high 17 points on 6-of-10 shooting from the floor and 4-of-6 from the arc, while Mayes went for 16 points and five boards on just 5-of-11 shooting, but went 6-for-7 from the free throw line. Raason Young had a team-high six rebounds for the game.

 

As a team, MSUB shot 42.1 percent from the field, going a sour 7-of-20 from beyond the arc. The Yellowjackets were solid from the line with a 9-for-10 effort and managed to hold onto the ball with just seven turnovers for the game.

 

For the game, NNU out rebounded the Jackets 31-28 and created 12 points off of Jacket turnovers. MSUB did well with second chance points, scoring 23 to NNU's 16. The Yellowjackets bench outscored the Crusaders 26-13 for the game.

 

The Crusaders had a huge game from Drew Eisinger, scoring a game-high 25 points on 8-of-14 shooting. He was followed by 16 points apiece from Darious Walker and Brian Barkdoll who also had a game-high 13 rebounds. Barkdoll shot 7-of-10 from the field, while Jamie Eisinger had a team-high eight assists.

 

Northwest Nazarene shot 55.8 percent from the field for the game, including shooting 10-of-18 (55.6%) from beyond the arc. The Crusaders were also 11-for-14 from the free throw line.

 

MSUB built an early four-point, 5-1, lead when Young connected on a 3-pointer off a Chambers pass. After NNU cut the lead back to one with a pair of free throws, Mayes hit a small jumper to build the lead back to three.

 

The Crusaders then tied the game again with a long ball, but Jaxon Myaer gave the Jackets their final lead of the game with jumper with 13:43 to go in the half. Drew Eisinger gave the Crusaders the lead for good, hitting a trey to put NNU up by one with 13:25 to go.

 

Eisinger's trey started a 17-3 run that really put the Jackets in a hole. They would increase their lead to by as many as 16 by the end of the half. The Crusaders would later build their largest lead of the game at 21, 48-27, just 39 seconds into the half.

 

The Yellowjackets will cap their final road trip of the season this Saturday when they take on the nationally ranked Wildcats of Central Washington. The Jackets dropped the first contest of the season at home against the Wildcats, 69-55. The game can be seen on webcast and live stats through the CWU website.
