SEATTLE – DeAndre Chambers (Monroe, NC) forced overtime by knocking down three free throws with 0.06 seconds to send the game into overtime, but Seattle Pacific used a 7-0 run to start the extra frame and defeat the MSUB men's basketball team on homecoming night, 72-65.

“I thought we did some positive things throughout the game,” said head coach George Pfeifer. “In a simple observation of the game, it was won and lost at the foul line. If DeAndre (Chambers) doesn't make his three at the end of the game, we only shoot six and make two. We have to continue to battle and improve throughout the second half of the conference season.”

The Jackets, who never led in the game, battle tooth and nail with the Falcons the whole way. Trailing by four with just 16 seconds to go, Raason Young (Washington D.C.) hit a three from the left wing to cut the lead to 53-52. After Jeff Downs converted a pair of free throws with seven seconds to go, Chambers took a feed from Jaxon Myaer (Salt Lake City, UT) in the right corner and was fouled on his way up.

Chambers went to the line needing to hit all three to send the game into the frame. He stuck all three and the SPU prayer hit the ceiling to go into overtime.

The Yellowjackets could only manage to get the Falcon lead back to four after falling behind by seven, 62-55, to open the period. SPU outscored MSUB 17-10 in overtime.

MSUB was paced by 15 points from Young who also pulled down four rebounds and was 6-of-12 from the field. Chambers finished his night with 11 points and Tyler Barnes had a solid game with 10 points and six rebounds. Robert Mayes (Houston, TX) led the team in rebounding with seven boards to go with his nine points.

As a team the Jackets shot 49.1 percent from the field and were 36.4 percent from deep. Their second half performance was one of the best of the season, shooting 60.0 percent from the field and the free throw line and was 50.0 percent from the arc in the half.

The Falcons were led by a game-high 25 points from Jeff Downs who added six rebounds. He also had help from Ryan Sweet who finished with 19 points and a game-high eight rebounds and 17 points from Andy Poling.

SPU finished the game shooting 40.4 percent from the field and just 27.8 percent from 3-point range. The Falcons were solid from the line however, going 21-of-24 from the line, while the Jackets were just 5-of-9. Ten of those free throws were made during the overtime period.

The Yellowjackets were out rebounded 35-30 as the Falcons pulled down 15 offensive boards, leading to 17 second chance points. The Jackets did a better job of taking care of the ball, turning the ball over 12 times, while forcing 13, and leading to 11 points for MSUB.

MSUB's bench outscored SPU 16-2 and won the battle in the paint 34-32. The game saw the lead change twice and saw it tied five times.

The Jackets now prepare for a two game road trip next week with games at Western Oregon on Thursday night and at Saint Martin's Saturday evening.
