BILLINGS, Mont. – Behind Raason Young's 22 points and seven boards, the Montana State Billings men's basketball team earned their first victory of the 2010-11 season with a 83-63 victory over visiting Minot State Saturday night in Billings.
“I was happy that we had some depth from our bench tonight,” said head coach George Pfeifer. “I thought we were kind of soft in the first five or seven minutes of first half. As the game went on we dialed up our intensity. We certainly didn't get after the boards in the first half, but our aggressiveness picked up in the second half and we made a lot more plays. Raason Young was the best player on floor tonight, and Jaxon (Myaer) did a great job distributing the ball.”
Young shot 9-of-13 from the floor and went 2-for-3 from three point land. Four other players scored in double-figures, including three with 12 points apiece. Robert Mayes had 12 with a team-high eight boards, while Jaxon Myaer had 12 and five boards with a game-high nine assists.
Senior DeAndre Chambers scored 12 points with four boards after dropping 27 points against Mary on Tuesday night. Emery Henning wound up with 11 points and five boards on the inside for the Yellowjackets.
With the score tied 8-8 with 15:29 left in the first half, Myaer sliced to the hole to give the Jackets the lead. The assist came from Tyler Barnes who had two for the game along with two points.

The Jackets would go on a 10-0 run to close out the half as Chambers capped the run with a three-pointer from deep with just :54 seconds remaining in the half. MSUB took a 38-28 lead into the locker room after shooting 60.7 percent for the half.
As the second half got underway, MSUB went a 15-5 run to open the half and increase their lead to 18 at 53-35 just under the 14 minute mark.
With just 5:51 to go, the Beavers managed to get the game back within 13 at 71-58 after a Kal Bay three-pointer. But the Jackets again went on a small run to close out the game and capture the 20 point victore.
As a team, MSUB shot 50.0 percent for the game and went 8-for-21 from deep. They also shot 61.9 percent from the line, making 13-of-21. The defense forced 17 turnovers and came away with six steals and a pair of blocks in the game.
