Jackets Seek First Win Saturday against Minot State

BILLINGS, Mont. – The Montana State Billings men's basketball team returns to the hardwood this Saturday, Nov. 20, seeking its first victory of the 2010-11 season against Minot State in a non-conference match-up at 7 p.m. in Alterowitz Gymnasium.

The Yellowjackets are 0-1 and looking to bounce back after dropping the season opener, 70-68, Tuesday evening to a talented University of Mary squad. The Jackets fell behind early, but managed to scrape back into the game and tied the game late. Mary made a push late and with a free throw with just one second remaining, gave the Marauders the two point victory.

Senior DeAndre Chambers led the Yellowjackets in scoring, dropping 27 points on 10-of-18 shooting from the field, including going 7-for-14 from beyond the arc. Chambers also grabbed four boards and had a pair of assists.

Fellow senior Raason Young scored 12 points and had three assists, while junior Robert Mayes scored his first double-double with 15 points and 10 boards. Junior Jaxon Myaer had a game-high 12 assists and big man Emery Henning had eight rebounds.

The Yellowjackets shot 52.1 percent from the floor on 25-of-48 shooting and were 9-for-25 from downtown. The Jackets also shot 69.2 percent from the free throw line and out rebound the Marauders 32-30 on the glass. MSUB turned the ball over 16 times and forced 11.

Looking at the Beavers, the NAIA member is 2-3 on the season and will face Montana State tonight in Bozeman before coming to Billings to take on the Jackets. Minot State defeated Montana Tech last night in Butte, 84-79, improving on their record after a loss to Montana-Northern a few weeks ago, 85-55.

The Beavers have three players that are averaging double-figures. Anthony Enriquez has played in all five games, and is averaging 14.4 points per game and is shooting 45.2 percent in those five appearances.

Kal Bay has been dominant in four games for MSU, racking up 14.3 points per game and has been the main threat from outside. Bay is shooting 45.2 percent (14-31) from beyond the arc this season. Jason West joins Bay and Anthony as the only other Beaver in double-figures. West is scoring 11.4 points per game and is shooting 41.7 percent from the floor.
