9/28/2024 3:35:00 PM

BURNABY, B.C. – The Montana State University Billings women's soccer team were defeated in their second match of conference action, falling by a score of 2-0 to Simon Fraser University in Great Northwest Athletic Conference play.

The Yellowjackets (3-3, 0-2 GNAC) came out strong, controlling a majority of the first half and threatening to take an early lead. But they would be unable to break through, while a pair of Red Leaf (5-1, 1-1 GNAC) would swing the game in favor of the home team.

The Yellowjackets and Red Leafs played a back-and-forth first half, with both teams trading opportunities. Both teams attempted a similar amount of shots, with MSUB attempting six shots to Simon Fraser's seven, but the Yellowjackets would have the majority of shots on goal, putting three shots on frame while allowing just one shot on goal from the Red Leafs. The Yellowjackets would control the flow of play and possession for a majority of the half, but both defenses would hold firm, with neither team drawing blood over the opening 45 minutes to head into the break tied 0-0.

The second half would see the Red Leafs find control of the match however, with the hosts outshooting the 'Jackets 10-4. They would finally break through on goal in the 57th minute, playing a ball over the top that Dariella Lopez would convert to put the Red Leafs up 1-0, before doubling up their advantage in the 65th minute on a goal from Isabella Muzzolini. The Yellowjackets would push hard to grab a goal late, but would be unable to break though, dropping their second consecutive match in GNAC play.

Liberty Palmer would finish with the most shots for the Yellowjackets, attempting three with one shot on goal, while Taylor Gertsch had a team high two shots on goal. Jackie Sharpe and Monica Brown each had two shots, with Sharpe putting one shot on goal, while Erika Wilson placed her one shot on target. Claire Brogdon made two saves in goal for MSUB.
