2021: Played in 15 matches in fourth season in the program…scored a pair of goals and totaled four points…took six shots and placed four on target…totaled 480 minutes for an average of 32.0 minutes per game…played a season-high 50 minutes on Sept. 11 against Westminster…academic all-conference for the third straight season.

2020: Fall season canceled due to coronavirus pandemic…started both of MSUB’s 2021 spring matches…scored one of the team’s goals in its 3-2 win over Rocky on Feb. 24…placed 2 of 3 shot attempts on target…totaled 111 minutes for an average of 55.5 minutes per match…converted lone penalty kick attempt of the season…academic all-conference for the second straight season.
 
2019: Earned all-conference academic honors…played in eight games in his sophomore season…totaled 128 minutes…scored his lone goal of the year on his only shot on goal in a match against University of Mary on Sept. 29.
 
2018: Saw action in 19 matches and made one start as a true freshman in 2018…scored two goals for four total points on the year…scored first collegiate goal on Sept. 7 against Colorado Christian…also scored on Sept. 22 at Western Washington…played 499 total minutes for an average of 26.3 minutes per game…played a season-high 56 minutes on Sept. 29 against Northwest Nazarene…took 10 total shots and placed three on target…had a season-high three shots against CCU…scored one game-winning goal.
 
Jamestown High School: Four-year letterwinner under head coach Mark Sherfy…was a first-team all-state selection in the fall of 2017 after earning second-team all-state honors the previous year…served as his team's captain…was also a two-time all-conference selection while being named the 2016 team MVP.
 
Coach Balog on Shafer: "Austin is the latest player to commit to our program after being discovered at our college ID camp. He showed very well technically during the camp, and it is clear he'll be a reinforcement to our squad. There is definitely some work he'll have to do, but we have the utmost confidence he'll grow into a quality GNAC player sooner than later."
 
Shafer on choosing MSUB: "I really liked the school and the soccer program, and am very excited to further my education and playing career at such a great school."
