MSUB alumnus Mark Bolt begins his third season as a volunteer assistant coach for the Yellowjackets’ cross country and track and field programs in 2017-18.
 
Bolt was an all-state runner in high school at Billings Skyview and ran two years of cross country and track at the University of Montana. Bolt ultimately transferred to MSUB where he completed his degree and competed in two seasons of cross country and one season of track.
 
Bolt continues to run competitively and recently ran a half marathon in a personal record time of 1:15:23 in 2014. 
 
Bolt spent the last 10 years coaching cross country and track at Billings Skyview. He coached numerous all-state runners as well as city champions, divisional champions, two state champions, and several school record holders. In the eight years prior to his arrival at Skyview, there had only been one boy and one girl all-state runner in cross country, and no state placers in track for the distance events. In his first season at Skyview, Bolt coached two boys and one girl to all-state honors. All three of them went on to place at the state track meet that following spring.
 
Bolt helped Skyview’s men’s cross country team finish in third place at the state meet in the same year. In the 10 years prior to that they had not finished higher than eighth.
