Harlowton High School: Lettered in four seasons of high school track & field... Academic All-State and All-Conference in each of his four years... was All-State in two events as a freshman, one in both his sophomore and junior seasons, before earning All-State honors in four events as a senior... also competed in four seasons of football, three seasons of basketball, and one of cross country.

Hiner on choosing MSUB: "I chose MSUB after taking a year away from track to focus on rodeo and FFA. During that time, I realized just how much I missed the sport — the competition, the training, and being part of a team. As I started looking at programs, I saw how strong MSUB’s track program really is, and I remembered how awesome and supportive the coaches were throughout the transfer process. That stuck with me. Once I settled on my major, it all clicked — MSUB was the right fit academically, athletically, and personally. It just felt like the place I was meant to be."
