Kohl is in his second season as assistant coach for cross country and track and field in 2020-21 after assisting with outdoor track in a volunteer role for one season, focusing on distance and sprints. Kohl has additional coaching experience having been the assistant coach at Madison West High School for the 2018 boys cross country season.
Kohl graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering in 2018. He also walked on to UW-Madison's track team as a freshman. As a student-athlete, Kohl competed with the Wisconsin Track Club and was a seven time NIRCA All-American in track. Kohl's high school cross country team won a state championship in 2012.
