Biography
Sophomore: Montanez was one of two athlete to be named All-Region during the outdoor season last year for the Yellowjackets...He competed in the men's shot put, discus, weight and hammer throws...With a throw of 49.04m, Montanez is the MSUB record holder in the men's hammer throw. At lthe GNAC Championships, Montanez finished fourth in the men's shot put with a throw of 14.95m....Was the GNAC Field Athlete of the Week for his throw of 160-11 in the hammer, breaking the Yellowjacket school record by 23 feet...That mark was the longest by a non-Division I athlete in the University of Montana Al Manuel Invitational....During the indoor season Montanez was an all-region selection in both the shot put and the weight throw...Male Track and Field Athlete of the Year at MSUB last season.
Lovell HS: Four year letter winner in both football and outdoor track and field for the Bulldogs...Montanez was also a three-year letter winner in indoor track and field...During his senior season Lovell High School completed an undefeated season of 11-0 en route to the state championship title in football...Montanez was a two-time all-state selection in football, a two-time all-conference honoree, and the team captain...He was named the MVP for his team, participated in the Shrine Bowl and the Super 25...Montanez was named the 2A Lineman of the Year...In track and field, Montanez was a two-time state champion in the shot put and discus and a two-time all-state selection as well.
