Inside Athletic Training: Meet MSUB's Miracle Workers
After filling in as a certified athletic trainer in the Spring of 2023, Jodie Smith officially joins the MSUB Athletic Training Staff. Jodie has been a full-time athletic trainer at Ortho Montana/Athletic Medicine and Performance since 2006 where she specialized in outreach athletic training to rural schools. Additionally, she worked in clinic along side our team physicians and filled numerous roles as needed throughout the organization. Aligning with her passion for education, Jodie developed and coordinated continuing education opportunities. 
 
Jodie earned her Bachelor of Science in Health and Human Performance with an Athletic Training Emphasis from the University of Montana in 1998. She completed a Master's in Education from MSUB in 1999, where she was the first graduate assistant certified athletic trainer. Jodie will finish her Doctor of Education in Healthcare Education and Leadership in December 2023. Her dissertation is titled "A Survey of Emotional Intelligence in Athletic Training."
 
Jodie has been certified by the Board of Certification for the Athletic Trainer since 1998 and is licensed as an athletic trainer in Montana. She is also licensed in Montana as a K-12 Health and Physical Education teacher. Jodie has been a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist since 2005. She has also taught first aid and CPR since 1997 and currently is American Heart Association Training Center Faculty. 
 
Jodie has been an adjunct instructor at MSUB in the Health and Human Performance department since 2017. She will join alongside Head Athletic Trainer Thomas Ebel and will help take care of student athletes across 16 varsity athletic teams' with any athletic training needs.
