Adam Buie enters into his fifth season as head coach of the Montana State University Billings men’s and women’s golf programs for the 2025–26 academic year.
During the 2024–25 season, the Yellowjackets women’s golf team enjoyed one of the most successful campaigns in program history under Buie’s leadership. MSUB set a new record for single-season team wins (3), recorded the most top-five finishes in a season (8), and shot the third-lowest single-round score in program history (302). They also posted the second-best 36-hole score (613) and the third-best season scoring average (317.7) while competing in the most events (12) and rounds (22) in school history. The team finished third at the GNAC Championship, with three players placing in the top 10. Two of those players earned All-Conference honors: Orraya Tipasathien was named First Team All-GNAC, while Ella Tannenberger earned Second Team All-GNAC and was named GNAC Freshman of the Year.
Under Buie’s guidance, Tipasathien delivered arguably the best individual season in MSUB women’s golf history. In 2024–25, she became the program’s first golfer to qualify for the NCAA West Region Tournament as an at-large individual and the first Yellowjacket to appear at regionals since the 2009–10 season. Tipasathien played in a program-record 12 events and 28 rounds while posting the lowest single-season scoring average (76.9). She claimed five individual titles—the most in a single season—and is now tied for the most career wins in school history. Her season also included a program-best single round of 70 (-2), along with eight top-10 finishes and seven top-five finishes, both single-season records.
On the men’s side, the Yellowjackets posted six top-10 team finishes, highlighted by one tournament victory and three runner-up results. Leading the charge was Graedon Woodward, who won the Hardrocker Invitational as an individual and set a new MSUB men’s golf record for lowest season scoring average at 71.8.
Following his third year as head coach of MSUB Men's and Women's Golf, Buie led the men to a third place finish at the GNAC tournament where they produced three top-10 individual finishers. The Yellowjacket men also had one first team All-GNAC selection, three second team All-GNAC selections, and had the GNAC Newcomer of the Year.
With 13 total years of collegiate coaching experience under his belt, Buie completed his third year in charge of the men's and women's golf teams at fellow NCAA D2 University of Arkansas at Monticello in the spring of 2021.
During his tenure at UAM, Buie led the men's and women's programs to success both on the course with multiple top-five finishes at events, and in the classroom with a men's team grade point average of 3.33 and a women's team GPA of 3.74 during the 2019-20 academic year.
Prior to his time at UAM, Buie had eight years of previous college experience including starting the men's and women's golf programs at the University of West Alabama. Building the program from the ground up, Buie spent four years at the helm at UWA. His other stops included an assistant coach role at University of North Carolina Pembroke, and head coaching roles at Lyon College and Tusculum College.
A native of Denton, North Carolina, Buie completed his undergraduate degree in sport management from North Carolina State University in 2009 and completed his master's degree in sport administration from UNC Pembroke in 2012. He competed in golf at Lees-McRae College and Montreat College, before finishing his degree at North Carolina State.
Buie and his wife, Marigayden, moved to Billings, MT in the summer of 2021.
