2018: Redshirted.

Southwestern Oregon Community College: Ranked third on the team with a .272 batting average in 34 games as a sophomore in 2017…had three home runs and 16 RBIs…racked up 17 extra-base hits and 22 runs scored…led team with a dozen stolen bases…all-conference selection in the NWAC after his first year at SWOCC in 2016.
 
Holy Cross Regional High School: Was a 2014 BCPBL first-team selection and captured gold glove honors as well…led the Cannons to a pair of final four appearances in the postseason tournament, and hit .395 with three home runs and 13 doubles while driving in 17 in 45 at-bats his senior season.
 
Mitchell on choosing MSUB: "What was most important in finding where I would continue with baseball and my education was finding a coach I could have a solid foundation with, a team that had a great group of guys who want to compete for championships, and somewhere that would really feel like home. Everything about MSUB covered those aspects I was focusing on. I could not be happier about becoming a part of the Yellowjacket family, and I look forward to the great atmosphere that surrounds the program in these coming years."
 
Coach Sutton on Mitchell: "Sam is a dynamic player overall, and is an infielder and centerfielder with plus speed. He swings from the left side and has electric bat speed. He gives us versatility on the field defensively, and is a playmaker. We are excited to add him to this class."
